Telltale continuing Back to the Future series?

Christopher Lloyd is reportedly reprising his role as Doc Brown in an unannounced new game in the Back to the Future series.

It appears Telltale Games is not finished with its Back to the Future episodic adventure series. According to a GameSpot reader account, Christopher Lloyd revealed during a FanExpo session this weekend in Toronto that he will reprise his role as Doc Brown in an unannounced new game in the series.

Great Scott!
Great Scott!

No further information is available, and a Telltale Games representative told GameSpot, "We are unable to comment on any unannounced titles or projects from Telltale Games."

If Telltale Games were to continue its Back to the Future series beyond its inaugural season, it wouldn't be terribly surprising, given previous comments from the company. In February 2011, Telltale Games' senior vice president of publishing, Steve Allison, said the Back to the Future series was the company's "most successful franchise."

The company's Back to the Future series has since been surpassed in popularity by the firm's Walking Dead series. The first episode in that series sold 1 million copies, becoming the company's fastest-selling game ever.

Telltale Games' Back to the Future game came as part of a 2010 deal with NBC Universal, which also allowed the developer to create its Jurassic Park title, based on Michael Crichton's popular 1990 novel.

The first season of Telltale Games' Back to the Future series spanned five episodes, including It's About Time, Get Tannen, Citizen Brown, Double Visions, and Outatime. The series features the likenesses of the films' central characters Marty McFly and Doc Brown, with Lloyd himself voicing Doc Brown and voice actor A. J. Locascio providing voice work for McFly. Michael J. Fox, who played Marty McFly in the films, had a small cameo role in the fifth and final episode.

As someone who was in attendance at his Panel @ Fan expo (in a Marty Mcfly costume no less) He was asked his experience in working & doing the voice acting for the game. He ended the question with "There's going to be more of that! [the games]". I don't know if that one brief comment "confirms" that there's a new game, and that he "is" reprising his role. He might be working off the same assumption we all have that there will be more, since the final episode ends with "To Be Continued..."

Will be called......''Back to the Future that was, but isn't nor will be, because we went back and forth so many times we don't know what the frack we went Back to the Future for and pretty much got so lost in the past that our present never will become the future because we keep going Back to the Future"

I really enjoyed the BTTF games. If they are doing more, I would welcome it and probably play it. All of the episodes were fun and I thought they did a great job tying them into the stories of the films.

@theslovakian38 Yeah... this season of Walking Dead will end soon, they'll have to make other games to sustain themselves, y'know? Also, Walking Dead was only possible because Telltale is creating seasonal adventures for a few years now, learning and improving their techniques and the episodic games format. Id say "focus on what you're doing, Telltale, 'cause you're doing it great!": more Sam & Max, more Tales of Monkey Island and more Back to the Future would be very welcome!

I'd rather they just kept doing some Walking Dead games. Back to the Future was great, but I don't feel the need for more of it.

Now I'm tempted to go back and watch all 3 movies on blu-ray consecutively again.

Personally Id reather Tell Tale try their hand at more original games. I mean they are great, borderline excellent in creating adaptations of preexisting things, but I am eally curious to see how they would handle original games. It would be an interesting test for them and I feel like they can rise to the challenge.

@DevilD2005 The Monkey Island games were excellent as well, and that is original and by Telltale. But Back to the Future is my favorite from them so far.

@Poodger @DevilD2005 Except that Monkey Island was created by LucasArts and is not originally by Telltale... so that still makes it a licensed IP. (Still good though)

@ElusiveOne @Poodger @DevilD2005 Except Telltale was founded by former members of LucasArts, so technically it is a Telltale original, to a degree.

He has been hinting about this for some time, not to mention the ending to the first game screamed "sequel". I am very excited for this, the first game was absolutely excellent... the story was fun, the characters were vibrant and did justice to the movies... I would absolutely throw myself at a new adventure in this series!

@mickyfinn84 I mostly agree, though I will say it works a lot better for Telltale than it does for Valve.

I'd be happy to see another Back to the Future adventure. The first one was reasonably good with great voice acting from Lloyd and A.J Locascio who is a dead ringer for a young Marty McFly, but the gameplay was what let it down. The gameplay needs to enhance the story rather than hold it back.

Works for me. I thought 'Back to the Future' was pretty good. Episodic content leave me weary though. I like TellTale Games using this format so they can receive feedback from consumers to correct problems in future episodes but if you're going to promise an episode a month, then follow through with that promise.

The Walking Dead is great but it's a little annoying how long we have to wait two months in-between without much sight for a release date.

But yeah. I'm up for it. Also, please make the trophy list cumulative for one list with a platinum like you did with 'The Walking Dead' please!

@DrRockso87 That's why I always wait for the season to be finished before I start playing. That usually works very well, because I can play other games while they don't finish it, don't have to wait between games (which, I agree, is annoying) and, better yet, have more chances of buying the season at a "steam promo" discount price. :)

If that was a question to themselves debating the advisability of another game, might I suggest another movie to enliven the fanbase or generate more?

Sounds good. The Back to The Future game was probably one of the few video games based in a movie universe that was actually written as well as another installment in the movie franchise could have been.

Great news indeed. The first 5 episodes were great fun, and it truly felt like playing in the Back to the Future universe.

I just hope future episodes will have better graphics, accompanied by the great story telling.

@M-S-M-S I thought the graphics were fine, was more annoyed by the invisible barriers ("you can't cross the street here"), the "click'n'drag" as sole movement mechanic and the HUGE (though only four) interface icons, clearly optimized for the iPad's 10 inch screen (PC version should have icons at least 40% the size of those). Still, I enjoyed the games a lot! IMHO, they weren't better than Tales of Monkey Island, but were certainly better than Sam & Max first season. Telltale is improving, overall, and I'm glad they're doing point'n'click adventures, a genre that needed some love for a long, long time.

This is great news. I loved the 5 episodes that they've released so far, so I really hope they make some more. But the whole episodic content kind of bugs me. I can wait a month, but I really don't like what they're doing with The Walking Dead. They said that they would release an episode every month, than every month and a half, and now...there's no news or release date for Episode 3.

@AleksandarTale Well, next time you can play other things while waiting for the whole season to be completed, that's what I do. That way nor only you don't have to wait between games, but you get more shots at catching them a great Steam promo.

All depends on how much extra time it'll take to get it to us EU PS3 players. The first game(s) was great, but |Telltale are losing alot of respect from me with the way TWD is being handled
