Telltale queues up Puzzle Agent 2, Hector: Badge of Carnage, King's Quest

Episodic adventure game company continues game announcement spree with new installment in mystery series, crude comedy, classic reboot.

Telltale isn't exactly the biggest of game development studios, but the episodic adventure game specialists can't seem to stay out of the headlines of late. Following on from its deal with Warner Bros. to create games based on the Walking Dead and Fables franchises, as well as attaching an April release date to its NBC Universal deal to bring Jurassic Park to the PC and Mac, Telltale has three more games to talk about.

Puzzle Agent 2 continues the adventures of Agent Nelson Tether.
Puzzle Agent 2 continues the adventures of Agent Nelson Tether.

First on the docket is Puzzle Agent, the first installment of which was announced for WiiWare, PC, and iOS platforms as part of Telltale's Pilot Program back in April 2010. Along with confirming that the original Puzzle Agent would see release on the PlayStation Network this spring, Telltale said that a second installment in the series will arrive for the PSN, PC, Mac, and iOS devices this summer.

Puzzle Agent 2 picks back up with the first game's emphasis on puzzle-heavy adventure gameplay, which was inspired by Level-5's 11.5-million-unit-selling Professor Layton series. Designed in conjunction with indie comic artist and animator Graham Annable, the game sees Agent Nelson Tether returning to the sleepy Nordic town of Scoggins, Minnesota, to crack an all-new mystery.

Telltale also announced today that it would be bringing Straandlooper's episodic adventure game Hector: Badge of Carnage to the iPad, PC, and Mac this spring. (It was previously released by Straandlooper for the iPhone last summer.) Described as a "lewd, crude, and gritty law enforcement comedy," the title stars corrupt Detective Inspector Hector, who proves to be his precinct's only hope in negotiating the release of a hostage. Additional episodes will be released throughout the year.

Lastly, at an event in San Francisco last night, Telltale also confirmed that it would be rebooting Sierra Entertainment's classic King's Quest adventure series. No additional details on the reboot were revealed, with Telltale saying only that more information will be offered as part of the 2011 Electronic Entertainment Expo in June.

Mmm hmm, yeah, uh-huh...wait a sec: << LINK REMOVED >>? ? I am so confused. Roberta Williams wrote every single King's Quest; would they bring her out of retirement? Adventure games - Lord, I miss them - are still selling pretty terrible; even the great ones. This has really piqued my interest!

I suggest watching << LINK REMOVED >> - it's composed of some of the juicier bits of this game. (And you should also check out the description of the game by its own creators - they are very... candid, about their intentions for this game.)

The Walking Dead... Can't wait. I'm interested in Puzzle Agent. But I'm more interested in a new Hector: Badge of Carnage sequel for iOS

@Pipboy360 I wasn't a fan of mouse and keyboard myself, but I forced myself into it and after a month it was natural and I can't go back to FPS with a controller again. Far superior.

I enjoyed Puzzle Agent, reminded me of Layton. Just a little quicker pace and smoother animations would work wonders as the game did get slow at times.

Wow, a reboot of King's Quest? That's huge. The last King's Quest game was in 1998, over ten years ago. I remember a time when that series was a name that everyone knew. I am very curious to know what they will do with it. And with that franchise coming back, I guess I can only pray that they take on Gabriel Knight. I have been waiting since the last GK game (GKIII back in 1999) for a new chapter, but have heard nothing of it. One can only hope, right?

I love how Telltale is doing good :) Their business model works, and with Digital Downloads booming, things must be going great. I just finished BTTF : EP 2 and it's even better than the first.

King's Quest! Those games were way too hard for games today. For good reason at that, if you knew how, you could beat it in half an hour, so the difficulty had to be turned ridiculously high to keep you entertained. I'm curious to see how they'll balance the difficulty fans have come to expect with making the game accessible to new audiences.

Jurassic Park better be for consoles as well, damn it. I was really excited for the game until I saw PC and Mac up there, I don't like gaming with a keyboard and mouse. I'm just weird that way.

It makes me so happy that Telltale is seeing enough success to expand like this. It makes me even happier to see the words "King's Quest" again. For the past decade or so adventure games have remained a relatively unknown niche market...but it looks like they're about to hit the mainstream again.

Wow Fables, that is very promising. And a reboot of a Sierra classic... it'd be nice to see Quest for Glory come back around too.
