Terminator 6 Is Happening, James Cameron And Original Stars To Return

Hamilton's on.

Despite kicking off with two of the most acclaimed sci-fi movies of all time, the Terminator franchise hasn't always had an easy ride. Terminator 3 and Terminator: Salvation weren't exactly loved by fans, and the most recent example, 2015's Terminator: Genisys, was a flop that killed plans for a new trilogy. However, original director James Cameron is now involved with the franchise once more, and has spoken about his plans for the next movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cameron has revealed that he plans to bring Linda Hamilton, who starred in The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, back for the sixth movie. "As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then, it's going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she's become return," he said.

Cameron then made reference to Hollywood's willingness to employ aging male action stars, but not female ones. "There are 50-year-old, 60-year-old guys out there killing bad guys," he said. "But there isn't an example of that for women."

No Caption Provided

The next Terminator film will be directed by Deadpool's Tim Miller, with a story overseen Cameron and Miller. Television-style writers' rooms are becoming increasingly popular on big franchise movies, and the new Terminator will follow this model. Writers who will work on the story include DC veteran David Goyer, Cameron's Dark Angel collaborator Charles Eglee, and Josh Friedman, who created the Terminator TV spinoff The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has also confirmed his involvement with the next Terminator movie. However, the film does not currently have a release date, and specific story details are unknown.

There had been some confusion about whether a new Terminator would actually happen. Terminator: Genisys was originally intended to be the first part of a new trilogy, but its box office failure ended this plan. Subsequent reports suggested that Paramount had abandoned the idea of any more movies; however Cameron's renewed involvement has now ensured that the series does have a future.

Well, I'm certainly up for more Terminator, but I didn't realize we weren't getting a sequel to Genisys. It was EASILY the best film in the series. Mind-blowingly good. Best film of 2015 IMO.

James Cameron? Eh... He's made one film in the past 20 years, which was okay, but nowhere near as good as Genisys.

... It'd be cool if they brought (the now retired?) original two films composer, Brad Fiedel back.

As much as I like the movies, I just wish Fox brings back The Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles TV series and I sure as hell enjoy that then let's say, Rise of the Machines/Salvation/Genisys all combine.

@davillain-: Dude I used to love that show way back when it used to be on like ten years ago, and as good as the first season was, I felt that the show really lost it's direction and fell apart in season two, so I was kinda relieved that it got canceled since the show got really awful by that point.

Anyone read the Terminator Salvation comics which were meant to continue after the movie? The 2x novels were sooooo good to think if Bale and co didnt mess it up that wouldve been the end of the planned story loop. I prefer SM Stirlings Future War version and would loveeeeeee for it to be done by Hollywood but Im cool with the comic version too. Just want to see that final battle and defeat with Skynet. Wont spoil the comic story but if any Terminator fans I do recommend it it has a good twist at the end

Happy for the news but leave it in the future war setting only. They dont need to go back in time. I swear if Cameron starts preaching this hippie anti nuke theme again trying to go back in time to change the past Ill be done with this franchise for good and this is my fav movie franchise of all time. Like so many terminator fans just want the original story arch completed and time loop closed. No back in time, no changing the past, just future, man vs machine please

@wolfpup7: I don't agree with the popular opinion that Genisys was a terrible movie like everyone says it is, but if you seriously think that Genisys was a better movie than T2, then you really need to have your head examined by professionals.

Sounds promising. I'm hoping that the failure of Genisys will provide enough motivation for them to make this one good.
That being said, Genisys wasn't the worst thing in the world for me. It was mainly ruined by Emilia Clarke and Jai Courtney. Both totally miscast and gave horrendous performances. The trailer also showed too much and nothing really exciting was left to be revealed in the movie. Arnie was actually much better than I expected.

"James Cameron And Original Stars To Return"

Dusting off old Edward Furlong, huh. That's kind. Seems like he could use the work.

I think Terminator needs to go away for a while... Like a long while because its no longer even considered a good franchise as far as I'm concerned.

@noshotskill: Nah as a fan I want it to always return but before they start rebooting the story they need to close the first one. Most people want a proper future war to see how the battle plays out and ends but Hollywood seem to be obsessed with sending ppl back in time over and over again. I mean Linda is back now shell be old, whats next she is in the future and rather than her and middle ages John fighting Skynet they send her back in time to the 90s again to stop it in that era? its been done too much and confusing causal fans with what is really happening with the plot

@Archangel2222: I think because "most people" like an interesting story. The "future war" stuff could be okay, but just isn't anywhere near as interesting as the time travel stuff, and the only "future war" film so far made for the worst of the movies so far.

@wolfpup7: Cant blame hollywood they bombed Salvation to say that era as a whole is not interesting and wont work. Its like video games. Not sure if you played metal gear solid. Compare the 3rd one in the ps2 era to the ps4 mgs5 game. 3 is by far the better of the game but that doesnt mean that 5 couldve been better in that time line and era just because the developer made it stink the fans would still wish it delivered after all those hyper trailers. Even Salvation had awesome trailers that hyped alot of people waiting for the trilogy knowing this was 2016 and there was decades of story to unfold

Most likely Arnie is only "involved" in the sense that they have permission to use his likeness for the Terminators.

I trust Cameron can do a good movie.

@gaminsincepong: in the game Terminator Dawn Of Fate they pretty much show that Skynet is a program housed in military satellites in orbit that can download to bases on earth so yeah......not easy to defeat outright....

think, in their future, there's no nukes and probably no way to produce EMP's which would be the best way to kill all of Skynet but even if they had EMP they couldn't make a blast large enough to reach orbit.....

so pesky skynet will always be at it.....

@MJ12-Conspiracy: Oh yes, Dawn of Fate. Practically the missing Terminator movie. All they'd need to do with T6 is to finish that story. Kyle is back in time to protect John so John in future has time to invent a super virus that kills the damn satellites and everything under them

Of course, that wouldn't be the end of it in Hollywood

Like the others, I love the Terminator series... err, the first 2. But this is becoming a joke. I'm worried about bringing back the old stars, seems limiting to me in some ways. I say shelf it, and revisit it 20 years from now. Or just let it rest. It had its moment in the sun, and it was great. Create something new.

@jergernice123: IMO Salvation was the only misfire in the series. It was fine, and I'd see more of that quality, but it's nowhere near on par with the rest of the franchise.

Can you make one where they beat the machines already? Salvation wasn't amazing but it was on the right track of what the next terminator movies needed to be.

@analgrin: I have faith in Cameron, but man this is like picking up a wet dog turd from the street and trying to work with it.

The concept of time travel is central to the whole series, but it's also a concept that kills many stories. The first 3 left the thing more as a footnote

Hamilton was really kickazz in her role back then but she hasn't aged all that well. She's 60 or so and Arny is pushing 70. They'll probably have 10 minutes of closeups and the rest of the scenes done by body doubles like they did with The Crystal Skull. Heck, they had to get a double just to have Jones step on a box. They'll never do justice to the original 2 films no matter how hard they try. The Alien series has tried to catch the magic of the first 2 films as well and it's been a rough ride.

@bdrtfm: Genisys was already better than the first two films, and Arnold was awesome in it. I don't care how old actors are as long as they can still act. And whatever, the biological skin on the T-8xxs age, fine, I buy it, not that I even need an explanation.
