The Best Wii U Games of 2016

A sparse year.

It's safe to say the Wii U's had a somewhat sparse year. With the Switch on the way, Nintendo is clearly shifting its development focus elsewhere. Since the turn of the year, a total of around 150 games have released for Wii U, but it's difficult to name more than a handful. There's indie darlings like Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee - New 'n' Tasty!, old reliable Lego titles like Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and the odd big third party port, like Minecraft Story Mode, but nothing really huge immediately comes to mind. Luckily for you, GameSpot has done the digging on your behalf, so take a look at the five best games the Wii U had to offer in its last full year in the limelight.

Pokken Tournament is a bizarre Pokemon-Tekken crossover, and offers Pokemon fans something they've been dreaming of since the series' inception in 1996: characters actually fighting. Until now, Pokemon games had only shown the monsters performing small movements in battle. Pokken Tournament finally showed series favourites like Charizard and Gengar physically hitting each other, giving the fighting game a sense of impact that some say the franchise had lacked. It stayed faithful to the games' tactical roots too, with Mega Evolutions, support characters, and a two-phase attack system meaning you'll need to be quick in your head as well as your fingers to succeed. And it does all this without overwhelming newer players, which is important because although it's definitely a hardcore fighting game, many people playing will simply be big fans of Pikachu, just like you and me.

Next up is another crossover, this time between Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem. Tokyo Mirage Sessions takes the plot and relationship-building of a Megami Tensei or Persona game, but the rest is unmistakably Fire Emblem. So while demons are attempting to take over the world and you've got to make friends to beat them, the characters, weapons, and skill upgrades are all from Fire Emblem. A crossover like that could have felt weird, with art styles and gameplay systems clashing, but developer Atlus has beautifully merged the two games into a great dungeon-crawler. In fact, the characters and mechanics are married so well, and this strange mashup so at ease, it feels like the two franchises were always destined to be together.

You might not have heard of Axiom Verge, but it's easily one of the best games on Wii U this year. It's a side-scrolling indie metroidvania, developed by just one man, all by himself. Being made by a one man army didn't hinder Axiom though--its mysterious plot draws soon you in, before new, perfectly balanced mechanics and items push you on. Small drones, grappling hooks, and laser drills allow you to explore new parts of the world--if you're good enough. Axiom Verge is also bursting with secrets--one weapon, called the Address Disruptor, corrupts objects into other items. Using it on different enemies might destroy them, or conjure a new platform that leads to a secret area, and so on. The amount of secrets you discover even affects the ending you get, so there's always a reason to revisit. It's well worth a playthrough--or five.

Another indie game reaches the top five in SteamWorld Heist. If you're unaware, imagine XCOM, as a 2D side-scroller, with your crew a rag-tag squad of robots. Each character has a unique special ability, plus their own kooky sense of humor. But it's the fact that it's "XCOM in 2D" that's the real hook here; it's rare to find a strategy game presented this way, but somehow it works. And the fact that you have to aim shots yourself means you can't blame it on a dice roll if you miss!

Last up is Paper Mario: Color Splash, a game that seemed to fly under a lot of people's radars when it launched in October--some fans were upset that it appeared similar in style to Paper Mario: Sticker Star on 3DS. Happily however, Color Splash is a delight. It cuts down on the text-heavy nature of some previous Mario RPGs, and even has 2D paper effects to rival Tearaway. Above all, it brings a sense of humor too many games forget, and much like Nintendo itself, is heartwarming to the core.

Wow! Way to discriminate gamespot! Pokken Tournament was an awesome game, but to use the phrase "like me and you" in your synopsis is an assumption that everyone reading this article is "like you." I love Pokken Tournament. I love hardcore fighting games like KOF and Guilty Gear. I do not like Pikachu. Your final statement has no merit. Fighters Unite!

@TeslaCoi1: "What the heck Gamespot?"

XCX came out in 2015, and was even included in Gamespot's Best Wii U Games of 2015 feature last year.

@romeothebeast: Good one. ;-) But I'm afraid I can't agree with that either, that's taking it too far in the other direction. The game's not good enough to be called that imo. It's a great game, but is has plenty of flaws, and there are several others that are much better made, overall. Like Xenoblade on the Wii. :-P

@illegal_peanut: Mario Maker alone was worth the price for me. You definitely missed some great games, but they might put them all on the switch since not many played them on the Wii U lol.

@eureca323: There were some great games : I loved Zombi U, DKC Tropical freeze, Mario Maker, Mario Kart 8, Yoshis Wooly World *gasp*, and there are lots more. However, for adult / post teen consumers buying just one console who already had the Wii, and wasn't a major Nintendo fan, the Wii U was entirely skippable. For people who didn't have a Wii, though, BC with Wii and Virtual Console push the Wii U into must buy territory in my opinion. Agree?

Great list, mostly exclusives, something you can't say about the other systems.

@zero_juice: I've always supplemented my Nintendo systems with something else. I imagine most people do. Not sure why anyone still has this "one and done" mentality anymore with gaming and consoles. I've got my PS4 for boring multiplats and the occasional exclusive and my Wii U for major exclusives.

I am hoping I'm more into the Switch. I love Nintendo, but their past two consoles are not for me. I bought them, and they both (one figuratively, and another literally) sit their and collect dust. Sometimes, though rarely (months apart) turn the Wii U on, and play for maybe an hour. Last game I played was Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. I love that Wii and Wii U have a calendar showing when you played the games, and for how long.

That's really cool. I've said this more than once, and it may sound shallow, but a big turn off with the past two systems was that they didn't support Dolby Digital. The Wii U does, but it's 6.1 and it's just done in an awkward way. I'm hoping the Switch supports it, the same as the Xbox One and PS4. At this point, it may (but may not) be a deal breaker to me honestly. I hate to say it, but it's true.

Then again, I do want to play Zelda on it, and really am interested to see what that new Mario game is, though if it also comes on the Wii U, I'd be disappointed.

@NTM23: I've said it before, I'll say it again, if the new Nintendo Switch lets me download all the major titles from the Wii & Wii U, then I will definitely be buying it. I've never played any Nintendo game since the Gamecube, so there are a lot of old titles that interest me.

@Zombie8814: If you want to play older games, you're better off buying a dirt cheap Wii U. Switch is allegedly the first Nintendo console in a while with no backwards compatibility.

Of course, Switch looks like a more attractive console by a large margin, but if you mostly want to catch up, Wii U is better.

@edgarallanfoe: Agreed, it would be far less expensive, though the OP seems to also want to play new Switch games as well. Even if Nintendo pulls a crazy VC and lets you download their huge library of games from the last 25 years (instead of releasing them at a drip's pace) you'd still be limited because of storage space. UNLESS the switch supports 1 or 2 tb flash cards...

What really amazes me is, Nintendo fanboys still think the Wii U is this Generation's best console. Meanwhile, Nintendo it's already ditching it to jump to their next Generations, which is still lagging behind this new generation. Nintendo will never learn. At least they still make the best portable games, which is quite enjoy.

@ahpuck: Well... if you only look at the games, they're not necessarily wrong. Wii U was a weak console but it had some of the most fun new games of this generation.

XB1 was a mediocre console with like 1 game (all on PC), and PS4 was an average console with a pile of interactive movies, remasters and traitorous paid online. And they already ditched them for PS4 Pro and Scorpio.

This entire gen of consoles has been an embarrassment though, and if you ask me, PC is where it's at for now.

@Tiwill44: I politely disagree. Playing on X1 and PS4 is a much better experience than previous gen : Fewer load times, more responsive consoles, social connectivity, great multiplat support, the birth of VR (at least on PS4, and don't kid yourself, it IS a lot of fun), friendlier competition (Phil Spencer is killing it), interesting product refreshes, the advent of 4k and HDR, the rise of the indies is amazing. The biggest minuses are fewer new ip in the AAA scene, but gamers and critics alike don't give devs much leeway to experiment on new ideas unless they're perfectly executed with high production values. In any case, this has been my favorite gen, and I couldn't be happier with what's on offer and the games to come.

@Tiwill44: The PC can't beat the consoles due to lack of AAA exclusives (unless you're an RPG, RTS and MMORPG fan) Sony and Microsoft aren't great it's obvious ,but they're better than Nintendo these years. The reasons are many , some of them are Nintendo's policy. They normally focus on a content that's more appealing to the younger audience, also they had that Devil's Third game with a decent online mode and for some reason they will take it down. Square Enix also had issues with them, they were limiting the FF creators.

@Tiwill44: I prefer the games from this generation far more then the last. I just have a few devices its much easier console handheld and PC - and I dont care enough - games are fine, gen is fine I'll play on any device prefer consoles but either or. Everyones different, no right or wrong in ANY of our statements - just opinion/taste so to each their own. JVvss27 - no reason to get upset and argue PC vs console, IThe real winner = someone who owns them all (cause I can think of 30 games on the handhelds/mobile that you will never see on PC) so...for me personally having a PC/tablet, a phone, a New 3DS XL, Wii U, X360, and PS4 Pro is much easier. Therefore you get to choose which game you want on which device, from Witcher 3 to Bloodborne and Splatoon and Xenoblade Chronicles X to Super Mario Maker and A Link Between Worlds to Just Cause 3 and Far Cry Primal to Dying Light and Shovel Knight and Axiom Verge to the upcoming (and beautiful) Rain World. I can name as many games this generation as much as the last generation, last generation is over - let it stay that way. But play whatever it is you like, doesn't matter.

@Tiwill44: Yeah you are god and now you know everything about consoles you dont play. Nicely done boy.

But wathever, pc gamers talking about consoles. Who cares about pc gamers?

I have a ps4 and xbox one both are great. i can guarantee your points is delusional. There are so many good games to play today that you wont have time to finish them all.

The most important thing you should know is even if you play the same game on different platforms the experience is different. The menus, the controlers, comunity it is not the same thing. THe game is strictly the same, but what envolves it is different.

Do you like pc and is happy about playing in it? Great. I like consoles. If you can play everything i play great too, more sells more games for both of us. I dont care about exclusives. I like the consoles Zeigeist. You like PC. The important is we have the freedom to choose what make we feel better. What is the point in this whole thing about the best platform when the best platform is a personal assetment?

@jvss27: I was just giving my perspective on the matter. He's talking about how it's absurd that some people think the Wii U was the best console this gen, and I was pointing out that, for a PC gamer, the other two consoles are mostly redundant, and so the Wii U could easily be someone's favorite.

Of course, if you don't like PC for whatever reason then the PS4/XB1 are not bad alternatives. I tend to sound harsher than intended, but most people are ripping the Wii U apart as if it was a joke, so it's not entirely unwarranted.

@Tiwill44: He is just upset I think no reason to get upset either one of you - me personally all those games on the PS4 / XONE / Wii U (be it Halo 5, GOW4, Forza Horizon 3, Ori & The Blind Forest, Uncharted 4, Final Fantasy XV, The Last Guardian, Axiom Verge, Shovel Knight, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Super Mario Maker, Super Mario 3D World/Land, Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds, Resident Evil Revelations, Bloodborne, Dark Souls III all & any of those games I just prefer to play them on consoles - they run fine for me, for starters I dont do fanboy[ism]. I just buy a game on any device - usually long after the game was released (for me personally I haven't done a pre-order in the last 22 years of gaming). I buy games usually long after their retail release - usually refurbished/pre-owned at a reduced price by then its cheaper & theres a "complete" or "legendary" edition...an example: I didn't get around to TES V: Skyrim until literally a year ago (and by then I could get the full package for under $30.

I enjoyed it (on console) and GTA V (on console) and (so on and so on) so for someone like me who HAS a PC (and its really not that old, about 16 months ...but its a fairly mid-level PC---its a nice ASUS all-in-one, but you know 8gig of RAM, and Nvidia GeForce (GTX) lower end vid-card. It's modest, and I can run some Blizzard games (diablo 3, and other titles I've enjoyed over the years like Wow...mainly Blizz games on the blizzard launcher) and some Steam titles as well...alot of retro games on steam that I enjoy...but for the most part...I usually use my PC for this right here, email, facebook for a few mins here n there - ordering prescriptions/CVS, basic stuff - like I would on my phone or tablet. I have those as well...so for me honestly the PC does the most dust-collecting then anything and NO its not b/c I hate PC or some weird-twisted way I think its inferior...in general we all know that PC's when built right, with the right specs...etc - can (obviously) produce the preferred graphical fidelity for all major releases and AAA ports...they are usually the "superior" versions on the PC when optimized / recommended settings/specs. I know that, and I've always known that - I won't even try to deny it. BUt personally again ...I'm older...nearly 38 years old...been gaming for almost 3 decades, its sorta like music 25 years ago vs now...theres still plenty of quality content...but the whole being young, into indie music, going deep, indepth - you k now taking it to the extreme...

It would be the same thing w/ PC building, and high-end performance gaming & having the best hardware....whereas...99.9% of the console "ports" despite what you see in reviews (from gamers) and PC elitests (I hate that I'm even using that word, cause usually I dont use terms like salty, hipster, overrated, elitesm, fanboys) but for now for a lack of a better word I'll use it....but now at my age, I'm just playing catch up...and my eyes don't see a huge difference between GT A V on a high end PC and the X360 counterpart, I KNOW its there...but its just...eh...plug n play is just much easier...and it works fine, by the time I get to these games they are fixed, frame-rates are (at the very least) stable...Witcher 3, Fallout 4 - same thing I've played them only very very recently and enjoyed them (once again) on console...PS4 Pro the same device I would of been told not to buy, or had issues w/ some frame-rates/rendering even at basic 1080p/60fps...hell even if 50fps, or 45fps...at 900p I could careless..lol, I still watch TV (direct TV w/ all premium channels and DV-R, but my signal is just basic 480p, same with most movies / box-sets I buy of TV shows...usually just basic DVD, I have very few Blu-rays, which is also why I didnt see the "big deal" to the PS4 Pro not including in its optical drive a native 4k/UHD blu-ray drive...

I get it that Sony essentially pioneered home-consoles-being-utilized-as-dvd/multi-entertainment devices w/ the last gen (PS3) being so often used as a movie-device. But for me...I think it comes down to ...I'm just older, easier to please (or in general easy to please) and if you have a superior version of a game...I wont get mad, argue, debate, or sling insults at you...I'll just say "good for you, hope you enjoy it, I already have en joyed my version"...and I wouldn't be lying. I play a game, even IF theres some bumps, bugs, frame-rate hitches...I can over-look it - as long as its not game-breaking or so constant/often that I can barely play it and honestly I have YET to come across a game on ANY game console/handheld from ANY generation that has done that...so if the graphics are even modestly decent, the game runs w/o breaking...and by the time I get to it ( as I'm always playing catch up ) then ....why should it bother me ? if I dont have the superior version w/ all the online mods (I'm ALSO not into mods I should mention, its just not a big deal for me ) - mod communities, building PCs, even online play...not really something I enjoy- only a few games have I played online and its not b/c of a lack of a connection...I have FIOS (150/150) connection + Wi-FI w/ a decent modern router...and like I said I have several devices (all of them basically except Xbox One S, and any VR-devices...which honestly for me I would only consider VR if the prices go down and eventually we see MORE options, more fine-tuned hardware, and more variety in software...which may very well happen in the future) I try to be positive, cause as I said I'm easy to please so most games I play I end up completing 100% (atleast the single-player/offline experiences which is usually the bulk of the game anyway) and I enjoy. MOST I say, I've had a few bad games in last decade or so, but not many...you can call it naive or sheepish I'm sure other more immature commentors would think that...

But again thats opinion this ALL boils down to opinion and my biggest GRIPE with the gaming industry isnt broken day 1 releases (that gets fixed) or forced microtransactions (cause also I've YET to play a game that has forced them on me, and I'm not into sports games anyway, never have been and very few racers as well...Forza Horizon 3 would be the only one I'd even think of getting maybe down road...if I ever own a XONE S) but...no my biggest issue is the gaming community HERE in comments sections be it: youtube, facebook, ign, gamespot, you know any site, whether social media or not. I'm far from perfect but I usually tend to be middle-of-the-road like "lets see what its like when it comes out, lets not drawn any conclusions" OR positive...most gamers are just negative/cynical for ...I dont even know...the sake of being so ? is it hip to be negative and so arrogant nowadays ? I think the comments sections are just toxic, I didnt avoid them today (right now) but honestly even though I still comment, its getting less & less over the years...cause I honestly feel my friend was right when he said "just ignore comments altogther, read the reviews, look at the previews, get what you need - make your educated informed decisions but overall ignore what others say...esp in comments feeds or you know...you will generally encounter hate...arrogance, and insult slinging, and EVERYONE thinks their opinion = fact.

If you say a system/device sucks oh it must be so. Lol - so I've found that less and less I'm disregarding comments, not yours - b/c you seem friendly and you werent bashing anyone or saying anything...other then your opinion and I would say you aren't wrong (I wouldn't say your RIGHT either in my eyes, but again...it goes back to what I'm saying just an opinion) you are entitled to that. I apologize for the long run-on....I rarely get to let-loose, and rant...nobody is upset here though - I just type fast and long sorta go with the flow...but anyway I enjoy gaming always have - as much this generation as any (cause I can name tons of shit from previous generations) even the "golden era" of what is now classic/retro gaming...nostalgia (that word bothers me to an extent) cause what people tend to forget is this , nostalgia is like a very powerful drug almost...keeps you remembering the good (the pros) and forgetting about the cons. So I just say/keep it simple "buy them all, enjoy them all - and enjoy any / all titles across a wide range of genres, platforms, and generations...I can play a SNES title or a DS game or a few-year-old PC title on Steam or a current PS4 title...you know bounce back n fowarth. I just prefer plug n play...a single button push, system on - a few seconds of waiting for the connection (online) account pops up - load in, disc already in tray - game loads or whatever I want to do...and thats it...I dont even gotta get up.

It's as Francis/Boogie said on Youtube about PC gaming vs console gaming (he didnt detail a list of pros and cons he basically just said) "it really comes down to personal preference...PC gaming is back-straight-up, serious - dedicated and usually more time consuming and more patience is required for maintenace of software, updates, hardware and pop ups, loading screens etc you get in return premium/superior quality titles if you want to invest the time & monetary resources...and theres absolutely nothing wrong with that whereas console gaming is for a lack of a better word dumbed down, more streamlined plug n play, relaxed couch-lock after a hard days work on couch with your favorite drink , wireless controller in hand 10 feet from your 50" television, and the fact that I can play almost ALL major games on consoles that I could play on PC (except my PC with a basic i-5 quad core processor, and barely 8 gigs of ram mid-level if that at this point) CANT run all those new games at even barely the minimum settings sometimes muchless the recommended so and I'm not rich ...I do ok, but not rich by any means so I cant just go out and buy a new PC, or build one (even IF I had the time) I prob wouldnt want to...so for me, a pS4 Pro, 1 HDMI 2.0 cable, a 49" Samsung KS8000 model (highly reviewed and told to be a great model for mid-level price / 1 single purchase) a small man-cave in my town-home...done. 1 cable 2 devices, all purchased in 1 day...brought home, very little calibration a few screens, and 1 major update for TV and game system to catch me up to speed. The PC is still used, and enjoyed....just not nearly as much.

So for me every major game that comes out (you know AAA across PC/XONE/PS4) I usually end up just getting on the PS4 Pro (and I didnt buy a PS4 up on release in 2013...infact only this year JUST this month dec.2016 did I finally get around to getting a PS4 Pro...and so far I haven't regretted it...then again I didn't think I would...as I kinda knew what I was leaping into - to begin with, when I buy something I've done massive research...and usually had some sort of hands-on before buying it...so between the N3DS XL, PS4 Pro, X360, PC, Tablet, Smartphone, my nephews PS Vita he brings over on the regular, his Ipod touch - there is more then enough devices and gaming to go around. He games, I game...we enjoy the games...and If I stay away (for the most part) from the toxicity that is comments section I find that I can game just fine, and the games that Im told "dont play on the console christ its so horrible...this is a PC -must-play-only" LOL 99% of the time I play it on the console, 100-200 hours later I'm left looking around like (birds chirping)....what was the big deal ? it ran fine, didnt crash, looked fine - uh....I was told this game wasn't running on console well, ok maybe the PC version really did outshine it, and look far superior...but this is ok too, more then ok for me...again maybe my "easy to please' mentality could be skewed as "sheep" or "willing to accept mediocrity" and...if that is what ppl think, again its comments/opinions so be it: maybe your right or wrong - but in end wont change the fact that I still enjoyed the game...beat it, completed it...now ready (rinse n repeat) onto the next game. So thats my take - I took the long way of explaining it (again apologies) hope your eyes are not bleeding too much. IF you have a great PC, and are running modern games on it and enjoying it - more power to you (honestly) all jokes aside I mean it.

It's just my preferred device...I think its fair to leave it at that. But so far this gen (there may be a LACK of high quality games per se PER year...but overall I've had a handful of great games) AND I love retro/indie-inspired platformers, and sandbox games...so with that and modern tech and kickstarter funded projects theres always something in the pipeworks that I'm looking forward too, and again I'm always playing catch up (and the fact that I just watched a video with 20 games that are upcoming in 2017...you know one of those Youtube "20 amazing games coming in 2017" lol...I usually think click-bait when I see those, but I recently watched on just before coming here...an hour ago or so. I have to say I really do believe/think that this coming year will have far more quality content FOR all of us, not that this year was bad, it was just so far and few between each decent game (even if only a few) next year I have a feeling (its 3 1/2 going on 4 years into 8th gen) NOW were starting to see the "divide" between 7th and 8th gen, now were starting to see new PC peripherals, hardware releases, new lines of TV's as per usual, more HDR10-panel ready televisions, 4K becoming more streamlined and accepted (despite me probably not utilizing it for quite along time considering I'm always yea...catching up as said numerous times now).

I can be just fine if 8th gen I run games at 1080p@60fps or less (dipping here n there for obvious reasons) thats fine...long as theres some games, some options...and some more variety in the next 2-3 years. I do think 2017/2018/2019 will be a good time and the reason I've held off on a Xone S is b/c if (whatever the device ends up being called upon its retail release) the Xbox One Scorpio - well if its basically going to replace all current Xbox One S/Xbox One models (even though I know its an entirely new device, it will also prob become the go-to/high-end model of ALL Xbox One devices...so while the others will still be available its pretty obvious the Scorpio (or whatever it ends up being called upon release) will be the predominant system 2018 > onward. So no reason to buy a Xbox One S when at current moment only really 2-3 titles (2 really) that I would even be remotely interested in playing...the rest I can get on PS4 Pro & then some. Again not a fan boy, just "prefer" 1 device over the other, anyway have a good day/evening/night - whatever and keep gaming - hope we can revisit this topic another year from now and maybe more games to talk about more positive experiences for us.

@Itzsfo0: And i thought my comments were long haha. But i have to say it was a good an long read. In some parts I could feel the emotions you have about video games, other parts were not so well attached to the text (does that make sense in english? i hope so) but that happens in long texts sometimes.

It was gift to see a 38 years old gamer opnion. Your gameplay play time is almost as old as me. I am 23 by the way. People say we get wiser with the age and i think you are pretty wise.

In some point i could say you have opened my eyes. Something that just make me angry is to see all these console wars or i dont even know if it could be called console, pc gamers will always be there too. It is difficult to see any news and in the comments so much hate with no reason. In fact the only thing i would like to see is no more wars.

What i couldnt see is that i was part of everything i hate. To the others i was agressive with no reason too. I dont know who started all this but It is up to me choose if want this fight or not. I think all this thing about scores to games are part of the war but just an argument not the cause.

Today everyone feels like we must to be happy. We must to be happier than the other. But when you try to be happier showing that what you have is better than the others you are not, you are just agressive with no reason.

It is pretty good to see how you feel so calm about all that and how you express your happiness without being agressive.

I was losing my hope about the comment sections. I was starting to think nothing good could be seen here. But i was wrong, Your thoughts are inspiring.

In the end i may love Torkoal and beat some leaf pokemons but in the real wolrd overheat is not super effective.

Thanks for the dedication to post this comment. I hope games can continue to bring you great experiences and that you continue to bring more good points of view to the people. We really need more people thinking the way you do or different but with the same wisdom.

@Itzsfo0: Whoa, this has to be the longest comment I ever took the time to read. It was enjoyable though, so my eyes aren't bleeding (well, maybe a little due to the intense brightness of this pure white page... curse you Gamespot web designers!)

But yeah, it's always interesting to look at things from another angle, and I gotta say I agree with most of what you said. Sometimes it's easy to forget that games are the most subjective medium (someone can enjoy a game for so many different reasons), and it contains some of the most passionate people out there (people see their favorite games and platforms of choice as an extension of themselves). This can lead to very interesting discussions, but it often leads to a lot of heated arguments and elitism as you said, which is a shame because there isn't really a "correct" answer, it's a matter of perspective.

There is one thing I'd like to say about the negativity in the comments, though. I understand where your friend is coming from, but the thing is, if all the positive people stopped posting, then comment sections would truly become a nightmare. I say positive people should instead keep posting positive comments, to keep some sort of balance going and set an example. I think many positive people were driven off this site, or just no longer comment, which is a shame because it makes these comment sections worse than they could be. And it's a serious problem, because if hate becomes the standard, then eventually everyone will be hating everything everywhere, and there will be no way to avoid it.

Uh, anyway... happy gaming, never stop doing what you enjoy!

@Tiwill44: Well i overheat in some point. Sorry about that. Your comment was harsh in some point but if we look the other side you were trying to express a good thing.

I agree with you. Wii U players should have a place where they could say why they love their console. We dont see too many wii u topics here but people still need to be agressive. Why is someone here saying wii u is shit when the topics is to praise nintendo?

The only thing i know is people hate the diversity of platforms but a sad day would be the day wich we should be obligated to have the same platform and no freedom to choose.

I disagree with you about the negative and positive comments. It is like the indian metaphor about the two wolves. On the internet people tend to be the worst they can be. The internet is so toxic nowadays that some people adapt to survive. But even the author of the most idiot comment could bring a positive comment. The difference is he doesn't choose to.

I'm glad "Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE" is getting a tip of the hat. Really enjoyed it despite not being sure what I was getting into beyond "Atlus-made 'Fire Emblem' crossover."

@zmanbarzel: I hate that it was changed into a glorified rhythm game. I was really looking forward to that crossover.

@PyreofKoL: Did you play the game? The story centers around Japanese pop idol culture, but it doesn't have any rhythm game elements to it. Game play wise, its a traditional JRPG, the battle system, to me, felt most like a persona game. I was very skeptical going into it too, but I ended up loving the game.

Two multi-platform indie games on a top 5 console list, that's when you know your system didn't have much going on.

@LustForSoul: You are right, but you do realize the highest rated PS4 games of all time include games such as Journey and Flower? (yeah, I do think that's really silly too, but that's how metacritic and certain press works... everyone has its share of overhyped and overrated indie titles)

@melante: They got scored high because they're supposedly "deep and thought provoking". At least they're exclusives but even then it's kinda lame. That's just how critics work, they give obscure stuff high scores to be edgy. (That's how I perceive it at least.)

@melante: LOL@Flower. I can't believe that is one of the top rated PS4 games. WTF??? That game was horrible. That is if you can even call it a game.
