So is Jon Snow alive? Kit Harington is in this episode quite a bit, but he's dead the entire time. There are moments within the episode that lead the view to believe that there's more going on with Snow here. It seems Melisandre, the titular "Red Woman," is going to play a larger part in the post-Jon Snow Night's Watch.
The biggest moments in the episode come from Melisandre, right before the end credits roll. Melisandre stares into a mirror, she disrobes and the removes her necklace. It's revealed that the Red Woman is actually an elderly woman, and the necklace was either giving her youth or casting the illusion of youth.
We've seen her use magic in the past, but this moment was a pretty interesting cap to the episode. How is she going to play into the grand scheme of things? The final moments of this episode, when she reveals her age, gives the audience a bit of sympathy for the character. She's been seen as a dastardly character, whispering orders in her lover's ears, but there is a bit more to her. Is there a kind side to her? If she can give herself youth, can she give Jon Snow life?
Other notable moments:
- Arya Stark is blind and living on the streets, begging for coin. However, this seems to be part of a larger test as Jaqen's sidekick is trying to train her to fight, without sight. Arya's journey isn't over.
- Brienne and Podrick caught up with Sansa, who was escaping Bolton with Theon Greyjoy AKA Reek. Brienne saves their lives, and pledges to serve and protect Sansa, which she accepts. The Starks need any help they can get.
- Daenerys Targaryen was last seen surrounded by Dothrakis, and now, she is their captive. She meets their leader, and after a back and forth verbal battle, she learns that the widows of Dotharki leaders have to go travel somewhere special. However, that "special" place didn't seem like somewhere anyone would want to go. Meanwhile, back in Meereen, all of the ships are on fire, so it doesn't look like anyone is crossing the great sea anytime soon.
- Ellaria and Sand Snakes pulled off a coup and killed the new leader of Dorne. While the scene was relatively short, it was one of the most exciting moments in the episode, and it was completely unexpected, at least in this episode.
- Cersei Lannister is reunited with her brother/lover Jaime, as he brings their dead child's body back to King's Landing. Cersei reveals to Jaime that a witch told her she'd have three children, and they all would die. There's only one kid left alive now.
