The Book Of Boba Fett Proves Amy Sedaris Should Be The New Luke Skywalker

Listen up, Lucasfilm, after her showing in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, it's time for Amy Sedaris to be the glue that holds Star Wars together.

The Book of Boba Fett has come to an end, and while it wasn't necessarily the show many of us were hoping for--and could be considered a disappointment--one thing is for sure. It has served as the proof we needed that it's time to focus the Star Wars franchise around a new character.

Warning: The following contains spoilers for The Book of Boba Fett. If you haven't watched the first season on Disney+, you should do that now.

For too long, Star Wars has been shackled to the Skywalker family--and Luke Skywalker in particular. Don't get us wrong, everyone loves Mark Hamill and his portrayal of Luke over and over (and over) has served as a touchstone for much of the Star Wars galaxy. Now that we've gotten to the point in Star Wars where they are digitally de-aging him, though, perhaps it's time to find the next character to hang the entire series on. After all, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was technically the end of the Skywalker Saga, so shouldn't it be time to give Luke a break?

That's why we're ready to crown Peli Motto, the grungy mechanic Din Djarin repeatedly encounters in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett as the new center of the Star Wars universe. The character, portrayed by Amy Sedaris (At Home with Amy Sedaris), is the most entertaining character introduced yet on the Disney+ Star Wars shows. Sure, she may not be as beloved as Grogu, but this is a character we are dying to see more of.

No Caption Provided

After all, what makes Peli Motto so engaging is her humor in the midst of all of the turmoil happening in the universe. On the surface, she's a schemer looking out for herself above all others. Of course, as we see in The Book of Boba Fett that is not the case. She cares for Grogu and, in turn, for Mando. She considers them friends and a character with close ties like that (and all of the connections someone in her position must have on Tatooine) makes her the perfect centerpiece for further Star Wars storytelling.

That's not to say she has to be tied to the Force and the Jedi, or some kind of superhero that will overcome what's left of the First Order en route to being featured in practically every piece of Star Wars material for the next several decades. Instead, Peli Motto would be an interesting touchpoint to introduce new characters for further TV shows and even movies.

After all, Star Wars loves stories that begin on Tatooine, so why not take advantage of that by having Peli be the bridge between a variety of characters. Perhaps in Season 3 of The Mandalorian, she introduced Mando and Grogu to a wayward Jedi that eventually spins off into their own story. Maybe Ahsoka Tano has a connection to Peli that we don't know about yet, that will allow her to play a role in that show.

The beauty of Star Wars is that anything is possible. With the lightness and humor Peli Motto brings to The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett, it makes Star Wars fun and exciting--something it should always strive to be.

And sure, chances are Peli isn't the next Luke Skywalker-like glue that holds the franchise together. At the very least, the creatives at Lucasfilm should realize just how special a character this is and the importance a role like this--and a talent like Amy Sedaris--brings to Star Wars.

Fingers crossed she shows up in Obi-Wan, somehow.

I tell ya, if the editorial staff were half as zealous/driven as the comment moderators, we might wind up with some articles worth reading.

She’s arguably the most hated and annoying character in Disney+ Star Wars. Her character should have just been in some film footage for some stupid Disney Star Wars ride, and you want to make her the next Luke?

I said I wouldn’t post here anymore but man, you guys really drew me out on this one. That was one of the worst takes I’ve ever heard when it comes to this franchise. As if the writing for it wasn’t bad enough across the board in recent years, you’d suggest they take it to a whole new level. Just more proof that critical thinking is dead on this website.

Some turquoise hair colored momma basement dweller concocted this poorly written article just to annoy people. The land of make believe is often where most critics reside these days, a place filled with thick hazes of hallucinogens. Seriously, do these editors or whatever actually get paid money to promote these boring low-brow agenda-based articles? I need a JOB a Gamespot then, spew out hundreds of trash articles with commission for each one.

I have a question for GS, do you have an editorial process articles go through before publishing? This article has "interesting" opinions but a little off centre, you know what I mean?

You should stop smoking crack and stop pushing social agendas. Plus the author is a terrible writer. You shouldn't be allowed to write on subjects you are clearly clueless about

'We' are dying to see more of her? What are you basing this on other than your own opinion? I found her annoying and boring in every scene she was in!

Hamil is 70 and Sedaris is 60. Don't you think if they should replace the central pivotal character of the franchise it should be a younger person who can carry the role for a long time?

What I'm saying is make Grogu the new Luke Skywalker. Grogu will never die.

@saturatedbutter: If The Mandalorian and BoBF has taught me anything, it’s that none of these characters will ever die because then Disney couldn’t make money off them anymore.

Amy Sedaris is a scene stealer, she kills it. Having her and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Kim's Convenience), and Timothy Olyphant (Justified), and of course Bill Burr, has expanded Star Wars so much more into an interesting world then the original trilogy ever has. As SW series tv are/have so much more interesting characters then the SW return trilogy ever did. These side characters are amazing and give these shows universe a world that not only has a continuity, a tapestry, but a very cool vibe beyond, 'hey look another storm trooper, or another Tusken".

But yeah, Amy Sedaris ( a legend in her field) would make the coolest breakout Jedi character, like her (Peli), who weaves in and out of these series suddenly goes past menopause into force awakens, would be awesome, a late in life force user, lol. My biggest complaint of the second season of Mandalorian..... not enough Peli.

Huh...??? could she show up in Obi-wan..... let me think, maybe, .... she would have to be very young though and not portrayed by Amy Sedaris , unless she played Peli's mother. All for it.

Agreed, we can't be having these privileged white males as our protagonists. Though people who don't have a woke agenda think some of the characters that they have portrayed are amazing, and even though the entertainment industry trend is to now cast a protagonist that ticks the ethnic, LGBTQ or feminist box (no pun intended), we still have work to do.... and careers to ruin - So upvote this article. HT: No more Luke Skywalker.

@nookie077: The most feminist the entertainment industry gets is "women can be powerful and do all the same stuff men normally do, too!" It's like the most surface-level feminism you can get. It's quiet literally just girl-boss and nothing else. American film has distorted the movement so much that now you have people who think they're feminist but are anti-choice. Like it doesn't matter if women have bodily autonomy, what matters is that women can be CEOs who manipulate and exploit their workers in the exact same toxic ways as male CEOs.

@jenovaschilld:

I'm sorry, e-slang makes me nauseous. Can you please refer from not being so insidious with your childish insults. Just be honest and try "shut your big stupid mouth, nah, nah, you can't get a giiiiirrrlfriend, hehe" next time.

At least it will be more on par with your mentality and point of view. No hate intended.
