The Division 2 Won't Have Xbox Series X, PS5 Ports
Could backwards compatibility be the key?
Ubisoft is hoping players will be encouraged to return to The Division 2, especially now that it's extremely cheap and is returning to New York City in an imminent expansion. But looking at the horizon, there don't seem to be plans for ports on Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5.
Speaking to The Daily Star, The Division 2's Associate Creative Director, Yannick Banchereau, said the team is " not looking at porting it to new platforms”.
“What I can tell you is that we are not making a specific version for those for those consoles, we are very much focused on just working on what we have now and making that as good as possible," Banchereau added.
That doesn't mean The Division 2's days are numbers, which would be peculiar given Ubisoft's commitment to address some of its longstanding issues. The Xbox Series X will support backwards compatibility, with Xbox boss Phil Spencer already saying that the supported list is massive. This could potentially include The Division 2, meaning Ubisoft won't need to work on a port at all.
Sony still has to detail the PlayStation 5's features, and should be doing so in the near future, so it's still in question whether The Division 2 will also be backwards compatible here too.
The Division 2 has added Episode 3 of its first season to the game already, with the Warlords of New York expansion launching on March 3 alongside a host of gameplay changes and improvements.
