Geoff Keighley, host and creator of the annual Game Awards, has announced the nominees for the 2021 Game Awards, which will broadcast live from Los Angeles on December 9.

The six games nominated for Game of the Year include Deathloop, Psychonauts 2, It Takes Two, Resident Evil: Village, Metroid Dread, and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.

Arkane Studios' Deathloop leads all games with 9 nominations, including Game of the Year and Best Game Direction. It Takes Two from Electronic Arts and Hazelight is tied for second-most at five nominations with Double Fine's Psychonauts 2.

No GOTY nomination for Forza? Hmmm seems a little unfair...

Also Cyberpunk 2077 should get a performance nomination as well.

Death Stranding leads with 9 nominations? Proof of collusion between Geoff Keighly and Kojima, imo.

Despite all the issues and the bugs, I'm still rooting for Cyberpunk 2077 for best RPG and Score & Music. Probably one of the best FPS RPGs I've ever played, though the bugs and breaks did get annoying. Game was still a lot of fun otherwise.

Wide open year for almost all categories but Psychonauts 2 should easily win Art Direction and Erika Mori should wipe out everyone else for performance.

@gamerforlife96: just finished it. Not even in my top 5 games I’ve played this year. Outside the narrative, slightly above average at best.

@gamerforlife96: I don’t know. I didn’t play them. I played this because of the hype and it was a big let down. I fully agree with the meta score ok this one. 7/10.

I came from Apex, Destiny, CoD and Doom and this gameplay - especially gun fights are far bellow the standard of those. The stealth was far too easy in my opinion.

Well, at least Inscryption is there.

These seem to just keep getting worse every year.

No Demon's Souls? I know it is a remake but it was so completely redone it felt like playing a completely new game at times

That list highlights how weak of a year 2021 has been for gaming.

I know that may sound harsh but when you have those few titles in the running for GOTY what other conclusion can one come to?

I have a pretty good feeling Deathloop is going to snag the top prize. It was pretty much heralded GOTY when it launched and really surprised a lot of people.

I just hope we see some good trailers for new games at the show because if not I'm a little worried this years' VGA show might be worst than last years. And that would be a hard bar to pass.

@gamerforlife96: never have I been so bored and nauseated by a game than playing deathloop. The sheer repetitiveness lost my interest not long in the game. I honestly have no idea what was fun about the game from start to finish.

@gamerforlife96: And Deathloop for best narrative? Are you kidding?

The award should go to Life is Strange True Colors here, but I would not be surprised if Deathloop wins. And multiple noms for performance and not True Colors? wow.

@gamerforlife96: If Erika Mori doesn't win for that performance, the Game Awards should cease to exist.
