The Game Awards 2024: How To Watch, Start Times, And What To Expect

Since 2014, The Game Awards has simultaneously celebrated the past year in gaming while also looking ahead to the future via multiple trailers and game reveals. The 10th anniversary of that first-ever awards show is fast approaching, and with it comes an extra bit of excitement for what's in store. This year's event is scheduled to air on December 12, live once again from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California. The Game Awards and Keighley himself have dropped hints on what's to come, with game companies across the industry joining in as well.

The Game Awards 2024 Start Time

The official livestream for The Game Awards 2024 kicks off with a 30-minute pre-show at 4:30 PM PT / 7:30 PM ET, followed by the main event at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET. Award winners will be announced from 30 categories across general gaming and esports including Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, and more.

How To Watch The Game Awards 2024 Stream

The Game Awards will stream live on its official YouTube and Twitch channels, along with direct feeds on social media sites like Facebook, TikTok, X, as well as right here on GameSpot.

In addition, The Game Awards typically selects multiple Twitch streamers, YouTube channels, and Facebook Live streamers as official co-streamers of the event. The form to apply to be a co-streamer is live now, and the list of selected channels will be announced as the event draws closer.

Before the event kicks off, GameSpot will be hosting a pre-show party of its own, GameSpot’s Countdown to The Game Awards, beginning at 2:30 PM PT / 5:30 PM ET. The two-hour event will feature interviews with game developers, celebrities, and influencers, while leading right into the official broadcast.

The Game Awards 2024 Presenters

Multiple notable names from across gaming and entertainment have been confirmed to appear at the show, ranging from Fallout's Ella Purnell to Snoop Dogg and more. So far, the official social media accounts for The Game Awards and Keighley himself have confirmed the following people:

  • Longtime pre-show host Sydnee Goodman will return.
  • Statler and Waldorf will continue a long tradition of The Muppets at The Game Awards.
  • Pedro "Flute Guy" Eustache will return to The Game Awards Orchestra for the first time since going viral in 2022. Conductor Lorne Balfe has shown that Pedro has his own section in the score.
  • Bethesda Studios head Todd Howard is confirmed to be presenting an award.
  • Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul will present an award.
  • Isabela Merced, who stars in The Last Of Us Season 2 on HBO, will present.
  • Ella Purnell, star of Fallout on Prime Video, is confirmed to present an award.
  • Laura Bailey, voice actress and winner of Best Voice Performance in 2020, will present.
  • Sam Lake, head of Remedy Entertainment, will present an award.
  • Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear and Death Stranding, will be in attendance.
  • Snoop Dogg, who recently featured in Fortnite, is confirmed to attend.

What to expect at The Game Awards 2024

This year's version of The Game Awards will feature the same mixture of award presentations and game-related announcements as previous years. With this being the 10th anniversary of the show, however, rumors are circulating that a few of the announcements will be particularly momentous. Here's what been teased for the event so far:

Very disappointing Helldivers 2 wasnt nominated for goty. I thought that was a clear contender.

It’s between Metaphor, Astro Bot and Final Fantasy. All 3 are deserving of Game of the Year, but I want Metaphor to win. It’ll probably be Astro Bot, though.

I try not to get TOO excited for the Game Awards. However, unfortunately it's kind of the closest thing we have these days to an e3. So if you can endure the copious amounts of mobile game ads, DLC & microtransaction announcements and fluff award categories that most gamers could care less about, hopefully there will still be some cool stuff announced / revealed in the 3+ hour show.
