The Last Of Us Season 3 Is All About Abby

Season 3 is "the Abby story."

The Last of Us Season 2 is coming to a close with the season finale this Sunday, May 25, but the show is already renewed for a third season and the team wants a fourth. Kaitlyn Dever's character, Abby, appeared at the beginning of Season 2 but hasn't been a focus after certain dramatic events unfolded. Anyone who wants more Abby will get more Abby in Season 3.

Catherine O'Hara, who plays Gail on The Last of Us, told Variety that Season 3 is "the Abby story," so fans can expect to see more of her in the next run of episodes. That makes sense, of course, given that the show adapts the events of The Last of Us: Part II, chronicling Ellie's mission to hunt down Abby.

Gail, however, is not coming back in Season 3. She said showrunner Craig Mazin informed her that Gail is "definitely" not going to be in Season 3, but that she might return later on. O'Hara said she imagines that the writers invented her character to "serve Joel and Ellie" in Season 2, and now that's run its course.

Season 2 will wrap up with a cliffhanger, it seems, and it's meant to serve the story and help entice viewers to stick around for the third season. "Hopefully, we set them up to want to return when we come back for the next run," Mazin said.

Mazin also said he believes there is a "decent chance" that Season 3 is longer than Season 2, "just because the manner of that narrative and the opportunities it affords us are a little different."

As for the game series, Naughty Dog has not announced any new The Last of Us games following the cancellation of The Last of Us Online in December 2023. The studio is now making a new IP called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, a game that's mysterious even to the people in it. Naughty Dog is working on a second game simultaneously, but we don't know if it's The Last of Us 3.

Persoanally, i Cant express how satisfying it is to witness the downfall of this show. I would bet s2 would be the last because its some of the worst acted and boring TV out there, but I was wrong. On the bright side, we get to see if a transgender character played by an average actor can carry a multimillion dollar TV Show.

I gotta call my bookie

@12limp: Pretty universal critical acclaim is quite the downfall.

@restatbonfire: True, but then again this franchise gets notoriously review bombed.
