The Mandalorian's Gina Carano Will No Longer Be Part Of Star Wars

Lucasfilm has issued a statement condemning Carano after she compared political disagreements to Nazi Germany.

It's the end of the road for Cara Dune. The Mandalorian star Gina Carano will not return to the series--or the Star Wars Universe. Lucasfilm has released a statement announcing the actress and former MMA fighter is not currently employed at the company, and that there are no plans for her to return in the future. The statement comes after Carano made an Instagram post comparing the persecution of Jewish people in Nazi Germany to "hating someone for their political views." These are just the latest controversial social media posts she's made.

A statement by Lucasfilm was obtained by io9, reading: "Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable."

Carano's post about Nazi Germany caused the hashtag #FireGinaCarano to trend widely on Twitter. She later deleted the post, but screenshots of it continued to be shared online. The actress' controversies go back months, however, to before the premiere of The Mandalorian's second season, in which she featured prominently.

The actress has been accused of transphobia after mocking the practice of including pronouns in Twitter bios, and has also shared sentiments mocking mask-wearing and fueling COVID-denialism. The controversy was further fueled by tweets falsely suggesting voter fraud in the 2020 presidential elections.

"They have been looking for a reason to fire her for two months, and today was the final straw," said an insider source quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.

While not confirmed, Carano was expected to play a part in the upcoming Rangers of the New Republic Star Wars TV show, while other rumors suggested a Cara Dune-centric show was in the works before the actress' controversial November tweets.

Like I said before and like to say again, Leftists are ALSO nutjobs just like the conservative QAnon people. Just look at them spouting nonsense without knowing the context of her message. Reddit is even worse, the densest and stupidits community on all social media platforms. Both sides are mentally ill.

@daidochus: You don't need to be in any side to see how stupid the comparison was...

@blindbsnake: Doesn't seem very stupid if you know all the baby steps Germany took over more than a decade to condition people into going along with killing Jews.

@datameister: It seems very stupid considering her side, the situation at hand and the references.

You are talking about US citizens with a singular difference (party affiliation). And the comparison is horrendous, especially if you know between a Nazi/ Jews in those unfortunate times.

@blindbsnake: You are not paying attention then.

Why were there democrat politicians floating the idea that we should consider putting Republican politicians on a list if they supported Trump? Why are some out there floating the idea that since our military is mostly conservative maybe our military personnel can't be trusted if they didn't vote for Biden? Cable TV opinion pieces out there now floating around ideas that anyone who supported Trump should possibly be considered dangerous or possibly need to be reeducated before the nation can heal? Those are propaganda ideas being tested for acceptance.

Germany started out in a similar way trying to demonize certain members of their society until they felt they had enough support (when Hitler was voted in) to actually start changing laws and bring the power of Government into play basically banning people from public life. They started praising Germans who treated Jews poorly and condemning the Germans who gave Jews support. Then it all went downhill from there into eventually the full on holocaust.

We are not at the government control level yet like Germany was. Hopefully we'll never get there, but people (with influence) are out there floating the idea that other ideas are just too dangerous to be heard and that maybe we should find ways to force them out of the public eye.

this is just another way to stop women speaking the truth - she was comparing quite rightly the rancid leftwing women hating to how the Nazis got their power in using others to do their bidding - she has had the integrity to stand up but sadly now cos women are not allowed to speak out shes been cancelled by men.

So let's look at Disney logic:

It's OK to work with an oppressive regime (the Chinese Communist Party) who routinely tramples on human rights, including genocide within their own country. But it's not OK for Gina Carano, an actress, to hold and express conservative view points?

I don't know if it's just me, but Disney doesn't have any moral ground to stand on here.

@fellsorcerer: One is the boss and the other is the employee. Morality is a separate issue here. If I make offensive comments directed at my boss’s race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or sexuality I can expect to be fired.

@MDK4thewin: If you're fired for offensive comments, and meanwhile the company agrees to work with a government that commits genocide, then the company are hypocrits; because they're saying working with genocidal regimes is fine but offensive comments are not. There is no justification in the world for that.

Honestly, the only way Disney could have looked good after this, is if they, years ago, refused to work with the CCP and refused to release films in China until they cleaned up their human rights violations.

@fellsorcerer: I’m not saying it’s just, but it is reality. Power differentials exist between employee and employer and I think people are in denial of that. The employer calls the shots.

@MDK4thewin: The employer does call the shots, but when they're hypocrites—and Disney certainly is in this instance—then some of us will call them out for it.
