The Next Star Wars Movie Will Arrive In 2026, And Now We Know What It Is

The Mandalorian & Grogu is coming in 2026.

Disney has multiple new Star Wars movies in the works, but which one is coming first? During an earnings call this week (via Collider), Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that The Mandalorian & Grogu would be the first out of the gate, arriving in 2026.

Not much is known about the film, but we do know that Pedro Pascal will return to play Din Djarin AKA The Mandalorian, and that baby Yoda Grogu will be there as well.

The Mandalorian's Jon Favreau will direct the movie. He said in a statement, "The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting."

Favreau will also produce the film alongside Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy and Star Wars higher-up Dave Filoni.

As for the TV series, Lucasfilm has not confirmed if The Mandalorian is coming back for a fourth season. Filoni recently spoke to ET (via ComicBook) about the movie, saying Favreau is a great choice to direct and that he believes the movie will be "fantastic," but he wouldn't discuss the TV show's future.

In addition to The Mandalorian & Grogu, there is another Star Wars movie in the works that brings back Daisy Ridley as Rey and a "dawn of the Jedi" film from Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny's James Mangold. Additionally, Dave Filoni is making his own Star Wars movie, while Taika Waititi is as well. Rian Johnson's Star Wars trilogy is apparently still in the works, too, while Donald Glover is making a Lando movie with his brother.

Not too excited about the news as I am burned out on Star Wars new direction. I rather watch the OG 1-3 and Revenge of the Sith, also Rogue One than the others.

The new Rey films will probably make some money, but it'll probably succeed much, much lower than the previous films and would be considered a flop. I wouldn't be surprised if it failed and it would show that making the same things with woke stuff over and over again aren't working. The Mandolarion is more of what they need. I myself won't attend the Rey films, but I will show up for the Mandolarion & Grogu.

@magpietower: I can't imagine they'd go into another Rey movie expecting massive success, not after the response to Rise of Skywalker.

But then I didn't imagine they'd make a movie as bad as Rise of Skywalker in the first place, so maybe all Star Wars bets are off. : p

After watching the Disney Plus shows I realized that I am really only interested in the Jedi and Sith stories. The non-Jedi just lost my interest as time went on. I can acknowledge that Rogue One and Andor are much higher quality than anything else put out, but even still, neither held my interest as much as Obi-Wan and Ahsoka. I personally need Jedi in Star Wars.

@azalis: I'm the opposite. Jedi and Sith are becoming more like superheroes as Disney's Star Wars goes on, and there are apparently no rules for what the Force can do (or why it suddenly can't for the sake of creating tension). I've always liked the scum and villainy side of Star Wars most. Jedi and Sith are cool when they're used with moderation and restraint, but I usually get less interested the more involved they are.

@azalis: I agree. Stories about the jedi are the only ones that try to study deeper ideas in the Star Wars universe. They don't always succeed, but I've lost interest in the same western/adventure serials told in space. Mandalorian and all that other stuff isn't for me.

It will be a huge flop based on Disneys metrics/stocks and trending based on the publics obvious problem with Disneys agenda which surrounds boosting their CEI score instead of their shareholders interests.

Also, Elon Musk has now officially funded Gina Caranos lawsuit, as she was unfairly fired during the Mandalorean series of which this movie is based specifically against her first amendment rights.

Go woke, go broke.

@fastesttcar: As of late, I’ve noticed a truly concerning crisis in the United States. An unusual number of poems, novels, movies and even Grammy performances have “set off” people’s “woke” sensitivity syndrome (WSS), otherwise known as DeSantisitus. For some reason the state of Florida has suffered a particularly large outbreak in the last couple of years.

As you likely know too well, the poor sufferers of this disease have the unusual symptom of developing an intolerance for any representation of significant or strong female characters, people of color who aren’t sidekicks to more powerful white characters, any characters who defy patriarchal gender norms/ roles, etc.. They must suffer the chronic condition of only viewing movies or reading stories that mirror their own egotistical sense of self-importance.

While some attempts have been made to surgically remove the cishet white male privilege that has ensnared patients’ cerebral cortex, the outcomes have been less than desirable. Most such surgeries have resulted in patients who now identify as communists, tea drinking sissies, and tofu eating metrosexuals who can no longer properly pronounce “Merica” or successfully belch out the words to the Pledge of Allegiance.

A truly sad fate. If you are concerned about developing a chronic case of Desantinitus (WSS) or have friends or family that are vulnerable to this outbreak, public health professionals recommend canceling broadband internet, all streaming video services, and only watching old John Wayne movies or reruns of The Dukes of Hazard on VHS tape. Also, wearing masks have been proven to only worsen this condition, resulting in full grown men who stamp their feet and cry about mask mandates while simultaneously demanding an end to reproductive health care rights for women.

@fastesttcar: The Mandalorian show has done pretty well for Disney, so if anything was going to be successful as a Star Wars movie, it’s probably this.

And I really doubt Gina Carano is going have much luck with her lawsuit. The first amendment only protects from government obstruction of speech, it doesn’t mean you can’t be fired for saying dumb stuff on social media.

@sebb: I think interest in ALL Star Wars was down after Rise of Skywalker. : \

A new feature film could go a long way towards fixing that, and I think Mando is about the best they've got right now without gambling on creating something new.

@777: Yes, but that was before The Mandalorian came out. Rise of Skywalker was right at the end of Season 1, so if there was as viewer dip for Season 2, I'm guessing that abomination is why.

@sebb: The name? I totally agree. Based on the amount of merch they've created around him, I assumed Baby Yoda was something of a hit. But how many people outside of the dedicated fanbase know his actual name?

@sebb: Oh, I'm betting Grogu's backstory and/or destiny is the main plot of this movie. I think the odds of getting a nice, one off, space western without a lot of setup for/ties to other ongoing plotlines is pretty slim.

@fastesttcar: That lawsuit is dead on arrival as Disney simply decided not to renew Carano's contract (which is their prerogative) instead of terminating her employment. Nice to see the cringey culture warriors still being triggered about Carano being removed from the show.

@pattyboy106: Most people wouldn't care, if not Pedro Pascal making equally looney posts and not a word was said to him. The difference is Disney/Lucasfilm is full of fellow Kool-Aid drinkers that agree with him. Pedro meanwhile, an actor in a Disney series, went on multiple talk shows talking about his frequent drug use.

@fastesttcar: I doubt too many people here have great love for Disney these days, especially in regard to Star Wars, but Gina Carano trying to sue the company now for not renewing her contract in 2021 seems ... unlikely to be successful. I reeeally doubt any court is going to rule that companies are required to remain associated with stars who say dumb political stuff on social media.

@mogan: well, if they say the right dumb things they will be kept, and probably praised. If not, well, there’s always a need for more waiters/servers/buskids (gender neutral, I’m so proud of myself!)

Do t forget that these people are actors, and pretty much everything they say that hasn’t been previously written for them is dumb. Because most of them are, in fact, dumb. They just pretend not to be and people buy it.

That's a lot of movies. Hopefully they pace themselves with the release dates. I don't need Star Wars going all Marvel on us.

Also, I liked The Last Jedi, but Rian Johnson's trilogy is never going to happen. They need to stop bringing it up.

The Mandolorian & Grogu? I hope that's just the working title. Not that the title should be The Mandolorian & Baby Yoda either, but at least everybody knows who baby Yoda is.
