The Outer Worlds Developer Obsidian Donates $25,000 To Help Fight Racism
Obsidian also pledges to improve its hiring practices as it speaks out in support of Black Lives Matter.
The Outer Worlds developer Obsidian has released a statement condemning racism and police brutality and voicing support for Black Lives Matter. Additionally, Obsidian is donating $25,000 USD to the NAACP, becoming just the latest video game developer to make a sizable contribution to a charity that fights racism in the wake of the death of George Floyd.
"We stand against systemic racism, injustice, and violence perpetrated against the Black community not only by police, but by anyone," the statement says. "We stand with those who are making their voices heard to bring justice. It is to those voices that we are committed to being better, to changing the system, and to growing as a studio."
Obsidian went on to say that it will improve its hiring practices as it relates to creating a more diverse workforce.
"We're committed to devoting time, resources, and money to fund local organizations and improve hiring practices to better represent Black voices in gaming," Obsidian said. "Let's march forward together to demand a future of understanding, respect, inclusion, and most of all, equality."
Obsidian is just one of numerous video game developers that has donated money and spoken out in support of Black Lives Matter. You can check out GameSpot's roundup to see how other major video game studios are responding to the unrest.
