The Punisher Lives: Netflix Renews Marvel Series For Season 2
Netflix has yet to cancel a Marvel series.
While not very surprising, it's good news all the same: The Punisher will return to Netflix. The streaming giant has renewed the Jon Bernthal-starring series for a second season.
The news was announced on the show's official Twitter account, with a simple message reading, "Time to reload. [The Punisher] Season 2 is coming." The renewal follows the debut of Season 1, which released in November. The series follow Frank Castle (Bernthal), the gun-toting vigilante introduced in the second season of Daredevil.

While The Punisher is a violent series--the most violent of Marvel's Netflix shows by far--it also delved into the mental health issues plaguing Castle following his military service and the death of his family. As GameSpot's Michael Rougeau says in his Punisher review, that's a good thing.
"The Punisher is grounded in the way that Jessica Jones and Daredevil's first season were; these aren't superhumans or gods, and there's no magic or alternate dimensions. There's not even a shadowy organization pulling the strings behind the scenes, waiting to be unmasked and defeated in an epic team-up (at least, not in the first six episodes)," Rougeau explains. "There's only Frank, and the military, CIA, and other government operatives who screwed him over and murdered his family."
No release date has been announced for the next season of The Punisher. However, there's already quite a few shows in the works between Marvel and Netflix. New seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist have all been ordered. The next release will be Jessica Jones Season 2 on March 8.
