The Purge TV Show Cancelled After Two Seasons
The spin-off from the Blumhouse horror movie series has been axed by USA Network.
The Purge TV show has been cancelled. The series was a spin-off from the successful Blumhouse horror movie franchise and had run for two seasons on USA Network.
According to Deadline, The Purge is one of several shows that USA Network has cancelled. The series premiered in September 2018 and the second season arrived in October last year, with the final episode airing in December. The Purge was reportedly an expensive show to produce, and while Season 1 was a ratings hit, viewers were down by 50% for Season 2.
USA Network has also cancelled Treadstone, which was a spin-off from the Bourne movies, and the drama series Dare Me. Deadline notes that the network is moving away from scripted programming in general, to focus more on unscripted and live shows.
Luckily for fans of The Purge, the next movie is on the way. The fifth film in the series is titled The Forever Purge and is currently scheduled for a July 10 release. It's directed by Everardo Gout and written by series creator James DeMonaco. We're yet to see any footage from the movie, but DeMonaco has previously stated that this will be the final Purge film.
