The Rock, Emily Blunt Will Play A Couple With Superpowers In New Movie
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Emily Blunt will star in a movie adaptation of the comic book Ball and Chain.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Emily Blunt are working together again on a project that offers up a new spin on the superhero genre. Following their starring roles in Disney's The Jungle Cruise, which has finished filming but was delayed to 2021 due to COVID-19, they will lead the cast of a new movie called Ball and Chain where they play a struggling couple who have superpowers.
The conceit is that they can only use their powers when they're together. The movie is based on the '90s comic book of the same name written by Scott Lobdell. The Big Sick co-writer Emily V. Gordon is writing the movie version.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is being shopped around and "multiple studios" are said to be interested in obtaining the rights. Netflix is said to be the frontrunner, but no contracts have been signed as of yet.
Ball and Chain was previously lined up as a TV series for Syfy in 2010, but it never materialized. It sounds like early days for the movie, and there is no word yet on the supporting cast, a director, or a release date.
