The character Frank Grimes was a rarity in The Simpsons history. He was introduced and killed off in the Season 8 episode Homer's Enemy back in 1997. And that was that.

Now, to the delight or dismay of fans, Fox has announced that the grumpy everyman is being resurrected for an upcoming Treehouse of Horror episode.

Grimes, or Grimey as he liked to be called, will show up in Episode 600, according to Entertainment Weekly. He's still angry about the stupidity of Homer and other Nuclear Power Plant employees. According to executive producer Al Jean, "He's certainly madder at Homer than ever."

Unfortunately (or maybe it's for the best?), Grimes will only appear in the Treehouse of Horror episode in a cameo role as a ghost. He works with Sideshow Bob and other nefarious characters in an effort to kill members of the Simpsons family.

"They're forming a sinister squadron of Simpsons enemies to try to kill the Simpsons," Jean said. "If that doesn't make people tune in, I don't know what else we can say."

Grimes is voiced by prolific Simpsons voice actor Hank Azaria. The character has been referenced in previous Simpsons episodes following his death, but the upcoming Treehouse of Horror episode will mark the first time he's spoken in almost 20 years.

Season 28 of The Simpsons premieres on September 25. The season will also host the show's first-ever hour-long episode, featuring Empire's Taraji Henson and comedian Keegan-Michael Key.
