The Walking Dead Actor to Star in 24's Reboot

Candidates were undoubtedly tested on their ability to shout, "Tell me where the bomb is!"

Fox has found its star for the upcoming 24 reboot, 24: Legacy. Corey Hawkins of The Walking Dead and Straight Outta Compton fame will play the role of protagonist Eric Carter.

As outlined when Fox officially announced Legacy earlier this month, Carter is a military hero who returns to the United States with trouble following him. He turns to the Counter Terrorist Unit to save his life and ends up helping to prevent a terrorist attack on the US.

"There's a time jump, a new organization, a completely different story," Fox co-chairman and CEO Dana Walden said recently (via TVLine). "It's a contemporary story about the potential to activate sleeper cells in the United States. There are nods in the pilot to prior CTU agents, but no ongoing characters."

Series veterans Howard Gordon, Manny Coto, and Evan Katz are all signed on as executive producers for Legacy. So far, only a pilot has been ordered; it's possible it won't ever go to a full series.

Hawkins plays Heath on The Walking Dead, and was Dr. Dre in Straight Outta Compton. Those are two of his biggest roles to date, though he also played smaller parts in things like Iron Man 3 and Non-Stop.

Kiefer Sutherland, who played the role of Jack Bauer throughout the existing series, won't return for Legacy, though he could end up in a producer role. Sutherland famously took over the role of Metal Gear Solid's Solid Snake for the most recent games. News of his replacement on 24 prompted a quip from original Snake voice actor David Hayter.

He looks too young for the role, but I will keep an open mind and hope that it works out well. I was expecting someone more unkept or at least less babyface. Ooh, how about Dexter meets 24. It could be very exciting or (dark) funny.

I'll give it a try. Although I never saw the original 24. It's on my list though of things to see. If Netflix ever gets off their lazy ass and gets it.

Sutherland is 24. This would be like writing a Bourne movie without Damon. Oh wait.... they did and it was terrible!

@Frost71: Come on, it wasn't terrible. In fact, it was actually quite enjoyable. Objectively not as good as any other Bourne movies, but it was a good action movie on its own. Now, I'm just talking from the perspective of the average movie spectator. I hope you're not the kind of guy who likes Jack and Jill on the side, but also labels movies as objective facts. What would that make you?

This shit is going to bomb tremendously.

Fox might as well throw the bank at Duchovny and Gillian Anderson to come back for more X-Files. Because bringing back a series from the mid-90's is the only interesting thing that they have going for them.

Maybe this time the hero will be touchable. As 24 kept on going I started to realize Jack is the character who never dies and some of the excitement died. Otherwise 24 made everyone expendable in awesome way as I can still recall the deaths of Edgar, Bill, David and many others

I guess this means Heath dies soon in the TV series. Too bad, I like his character. (Guy with dreads for those unaware)
