The Witcher's Henry Cavill Would Rather Play Total War: Warhammer 2 Right Now

Even the Man of Steel likes to chill every now and then.

With Netflix's The Witcher getting a second season, actor Henry Cavill may be busy busting through Geralt of Rivia's leather. But the superstar actor has admitted in a new interview that he would much rather be playing video games right now--particularly, 2017 turn-based strategy tactics game Total War: Warhammer 2.

In speaking to GQ magazine, Cavil confirmed his love of gaming as a means to escape his ever-growing popularity. "At home, I get to sit playing games for ridiculous amounts of hours and escape there," Cavill said. "Because going outside has the opposite effect." To date, Cavill has played Warhammer 2 a total of six times with six different races and "[loves] it each time."

Now Playing: The Witcher Author & Game Dev Settle Royalty Dispute - GS News Update

Warhammer 2 isn't the only game Cavill is fond of. The actor, who's currently playing Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's The Witcher, said CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a title he is two-and-a-half times to completion. CDPR's interpretation also happened to be Cavill's "first involved experience [with The Witcher franchise]" and one of the pieces that prompted him to chase Netflix's adaptation. In addition to Warhammer 2 and The Witcher 3, Cavill spoke about Delta Force and Half-Life as being among his gaming loves.

The Witcher's complete first season is now available to stream on Netflix. The adaptation, however, is getting slammed by critics for its confusing timelines and cliched fantasy tropes. We scored the series a 4/10 in our The Witcher review, saying, "If you're utterly devoted to the world of The Witcher, you'll certainly enjoy the familiar aesthetic and characters, but beyond that, this series is hard to recommend."

Total War WH 2 is also one of my favorite strategy games. Really makes you feel like you are leading an epic large scale campaign in a gritty, large fantasy universe.

Wonder if Superman crushes his controller/mouse/keyboard when he gets frustrated.

Never thought Cavill was such a hardcore gamer. I cannot play those strategy war-sim games, too boring and complicated game play. I watch the hell out of them though when my friends play them. They're fun to watch when the person at the controls knows what their doing.

@travis213: what I load of crap. I've read the books and played all the games; big fan. Just watched episode 4 and it was flat out trash. 1 and 2 were just ok, 3 was pretty great, and 4 was just plain bad. The show's all over the place at best - the reviews are not some liberal conspiracy to force you into watching "woke" shows

@xantufrog: I could say the same thing for you. Did you start playing when Warhammer was first implemented into the total war franchise? Because it most definitely doesn't feel like a Total war game to me.

@JIMDOG4442002: no... I'm a long time series fan and Warhammer fan as well - and it's an absolutely pristine marriage of the two

@JIMDOG4442002: even if you feel like that (which is fine) your initial argument is still absurd - it's still one of the strongest strategy games to come out in recent years, regardless of whether it scratches your TW purism itch. It's simply not a terrible game. Terrible games are... Terrible and thankfully rare

@xantufrog: Even though the collaboration brings something new to the genre I believe it still takes away from what makes the total war series total war. Honestly its a version that appeals more to people that are new to the series, but anyways opinions are opinions and within the Total war community mine still stays valid.

@JIMDOG4442002: fair enough, but you have changed your complaint from what I was reacting to. Your complaint right here is that it's not a traditional TW game and that dissappoints you. Thats 100% fine and an opinion as you say. I know others who feel the same way too. I get it. Sieges and not historical, etc. Personally I enjoy it just as much as the others - finished a Medieval 2 grand campaign recently and went back to Warhammer 2 happily for something different. But whatever.

The complaint I'm reacting to is not that. I'm been reacting to your initial statement that it's a "terrible game, period". That's absurd. In a world with truly broken trash games, this one is objectively "terrible"? Take "TW" out of the title and it's simply not a terrible game: it functions as advertised, has good graphics, no bugs, a decent amount of content, the AI mostly plays smart, and in its genre there are few decent competitors even getting released.

I've got to chalk that up to internet hyperbole.

@xantufrog: Fine you wanted me to clarify better? Yes, I think its terrible for a Total War game, the change of mechanics, more focused on special champions for every faction thats taking away from the other units, I use to enjoy playing multiplayer in every Total war game but its just broken. My complaint still stands, but you cant get on me about how I feel about it cause I am use to how it was, but now you know.

@JIMDOG4442002: as I say, that's fair. Have you played 3 Kingdoms yet? I'm debating picking it up, but annoyed that new paid DLC is already flooding forward...

@xantufrog: Yeah I actually bought it. Its funny though because I actually skipped over Warhammer TW 2 after playing the first one and got 3 kindoms which has similar mechanics in the game lol. I just dont know lol. If they're going this route then I guess I will eventually go back into it. The gameplay just feels weird right now to me. One thing I dont get about the Three Kingdoms is that there is no set end time to complete the game by. I always loved to be pressured into coming up with more strategic tactics to help me finish my conquest in different ways.

Yes. Henry Cavill is the average face of PC gaming. I choose to believe this.

Explains why he is nailing Geralt. Not sure where all the garbage reviews came from. Everyone I spoke to from gamer to average person loves it.

The adaptation, however, is getting slammed by critics for its confusing timelines... There was nothing that confusing with the time lines. By the 2nd episode you went hmm, by the third you went... ah okay. Definitely not a deal breaker. Here is a perfect analogy as to why so many people didn't get it.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4zpBZX35zs

Fry: You see? TV audiences don't want anything original. They wanna see the same thing they've seen a thousand times before.

@lionheartssj1: It's worth the time and money to upgrade the GPU, RAM, and perhaps CPU to make it play TW:WH 1&2 as mentioned above... One of THE best overall strategy gaming experiences in recent years.

Love that he's a gamer and loves Half-Life? Nice. Okay, I know what I want now for next Christmas. With his star power, I think if he could just grow a beard again and be willing to play Gordon Freeman (we'll make sure he has dialogue) I could get a Half-Life movie!!! ;-)

@santinegrete: I agree. I almost added that to my comment. That maybe he would need to slim down a bit. Though I know he worked hard to build up. Maybe if they gave him looser fitting clothes to hide his "ripped-ness?" Lol.
