These Are the World's Highest Paid Actors and Actresses
The Rock and Jennifer Lawrence lead the way.
Business magazine Forbes this week posted its lists of highest-paid actors and actresses for 2016.
Central Intelligence's Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson unseats Iron-Man actor Robert Downey Jr. to take the No. 1 spot with $64.5 million on the actor list. Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence was the highest-earning actress in a separate report, making $46 million, about $18.5 million less than Johnson.
Downey Jr. fell down to the No. 8 position with $33 million, tying with Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan. Jackie Chan was the second highest-paid actor with $61 million fueled by his movies in China. Matt Damon ($55 million) and Johnny Depp ($48 million) round out the top five.
On the actress list, Melissa McCarthy, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Aniston, and Fan Bingbing make up the rest of the top five. You can see the highest-paid actor and actress lists at the bottom of this post.
According to Variety, the top 10 men made a combined $457 million, which is more than two times the $205 million the top 10 women made. Eighteen actors made $20 million or more, compared to four actresses. Another standout piece of information is that Lawrence is the youngest on either list, while Star Wars actor Harrison Ford is the oldest.
Johnson responded to the news today with a tweet in which he encouraged people to chase their dreams.
