These Three Free Games Are Headed to the EA Access Vault

EA Access members can expect three more free games this summer.

EA Access members have a whole lot to look forward to. EA announced today that Need for Speed, Unravel, and Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 are all headed to the EA Access Vault on Xbox One this summer.

Need for Speed and Unravel hit the Vault first on July 12, while Garden Warfare 2 arrives on August 30. The Play First trial periods were also announced, letting members know when they can start playing sports titles like Madden NFL 17, NHL 17, and FIFA 17.

Members get access to each sports game for a limited amount of time five days before release. Madden NFL 17 can be played starting August 18, NHL 17 early access starts September 8, and FIFA 17 is available to members on September 22.

When it comes to the games headed to the Vault, Need for Speed received an 8 in GameSpot's review for its "nail-biting sense of speed," Unravel scored a 7 for its "helpful, heartfelt message," and Garden Warfare 2 earned a score of 8 for its "incredible mechanical diversity and creativity."

EA Access costs $5 a month or $30 a year to subscribe. You get access to a bunch of games, discounts, and Play First trials. You can play the included library of games as much as you want as long as you're subscribed to EA Access. The program is only available on Xbox One.

The PC, however, has its own Origin Access program. The PC-only subscription is available for $5 a month and includes a library of games, a 10 percent discount on Origin purchases, and early play trials.

Battlefield 1 releases October 21, but you can start playing it on October 18 if you're an EA or Origin Access member. Additionally, if you purchase a deluxe edition of the game, you'll get early access.

So much hate for EA in the comments. EA Vault is awesome for those who just got Xbox One. Yes, some of their games suck, but so many other publishers' games suck as well. I'm personally not into multiplayer or sports games but even for me the selection in the Vault was decent enough for me to pay $30 for the year. It gets even better now with these games added. Excluding all the sports titles someone getting EA Access can download and play the following games: Battlefield Hardline, Battlefield 4, Dead Space, Dragon Age: Inquisition, TitanFall, Garden Warfare 1 (and now 2), Need for Speed Rivals (and now Need for Speed), Peggle 2, and Plants vs Zombies 1 (and now 2)...and soon Unravel. For $30 that's alot of gaming in one year. You can even subscribe for 2 months and just play these free games and cancel and then reup once more games are added that you want to play. Not all these games are awesome, but many of them are quite good to make their pricing for the service a very good value. If you don't think it's worth it, then don't buy it. If you think EA games are crap...then stop paying money for their games so that they take a hint and make more quality games. It's one thing to say their games are crap and not worth...it's idiotic to continue giving them your money so that they have no incentive to improve the quality of their games.

Sony was right god damn. For $2.50 a month I could be getting McDonalds rather than all these random games to play. What a total scam. This isnt good value for the consumer.

That moment when one of the games being added costs more than a year of the subscription..........

Make Mass Effect 2 and 3 backwards compatible, then put them in the Vault so I don't need to swap my discs out.

This service has to be the worst ever.....why would I spend another $10+ extra for crappy EA games??? sorry man but aside from Bioware frack EA games......90% of their stuff sucks

Unravel I'm interested in but I'm still playing Fallout 4 and with Nuka World coming FFS I'll be busy for awhile lolz

i honestly miss the good days when trip Hawkins was still CEO, Road Rash, Strike, Haunting Starring Pulterguy, LHX Attack Chopper, Skitchn' and honestly their sports games in the 90's were okay....I had friends then who played em and i had fun but never owned one myself but I rented Mutant League Football and that was badass....I kiss the good days when they made good games all the time.....

and I miss stuff like C&C....

Yeah, EA is definitely the worst for letting me at these games for only $30 a year. What a scam!

Thats why I wait for some of these games to come to the vault. It would be cool if they could put a countdown timer for games that will hit the vault so then you would have true choice on rather to grab the title early or simply wait for it. I dont see a countdown timer hurting the sells of the game since you're already paying for a subscription anyways.

@kentray1985: They honestly just probably wait until they see sales dip below a certain threshold. At that point they add to the vault.

@jshah500: Yeah that seems likely but the likelihood of EA thinking about the customers first is little to none lol

Unravel and GW2 came out just a few months ago didn't they? Guess sales dropped off quickly on those. But it only adds more value to EA Access which is becoming a better and better deal.
