Third Cloverfield Movie Gets Release Date
Clover the rainbow.
The Cloverfield universe of movies will soon be getting a third part. It has been reported that a JJ Abrams-produced sci-fi movie that was shot under the title of God's Particle is being delayed and retitled to align it closer to 2009's Cloverfield and this year's 10 Cloverfield Lane.
As reported by Variety, God's Particle now appears on Paramount's release schedule as 2017 Cloverfield Movie, and will hit theaters on October 27, 2017, shifting back from its original February date.
The movie is a sci-fi thriller that focuses on team of astronauts on a space station who make a terrifying discovery. It stars David Oyelowo (Selma, The Butler), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beyond The Lights), and Ziyi Zhang (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon).
The decision to retitle the movie is also what happened with the Abrams-produced 10 Cloverfield Lane. That film was first announced in 2014 and was called both Valencia and The Cellar at various points during production. Little was heard of it again until this year, when the first trailers revealed that it had been retitled to link it to Cloverfield. Although the film was not a direct sequel, it was described by Abrams as being a "blood relative."
