As announced on developer CD Projekt Red's Facebook page, these DLCs come in the form of a new quest and cosmetic option for Yennefer:

  • CONTRACT: MISSING MINERS - Miners from a small Skellige village are disappearing. Investigate and find out what's happening.
  • ALTERNATIVE LOOK FOR YENNEFER - Check out this entirely new look for the mighty sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg.

No official release date for this content was announced. But presumably it will become available later this week when each store refreshes. The DLC will be available across PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

In all, CD Projekt Red plans to release sixteen free expansions for The Witcher 3. The first two, The Temerian Armor Set (for your horse) and the Beard and Hairstyle Set (for Geralt), were released last week. The remaining twelve will be released on a weekly basis throughout June and July.

As for why CD Projekt Red is giving away content for free, co-CEO Marcin Iwinski previously explained that it's a means of saying thank you to fans.

"As gamers, we nowadays have to hold on tight to our wallets, as surprisingly right after release, lots of tiny pieces of tempting content materialize with a steep price tag attached. Haven't we just paid a lot of cash for a brand new game?" he said. "At CD Projekt Red, we strongly believe this is not the way it should work and, with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we have decided to do it differently. This is our way of saying thank you for buying our game."

Looking further ahead, CD Projekt Red plans to release multiple paid expansions for The Witcher 3. The first of these, Hearts of Stone, will launch in October.
