Thor: Ragnarok Actor Jeff Goldblum on His "Hedonistic" Role as the Grandmaster
"I'm a sponge."
Thor: Ragnarok is shaping up to be one of the most exciting titles on the roster of future Marvel films. It's not just the promise that it will be a "buddy movie" between Thor and Hulk, but the caliber of the cast also promises great things. Jeff Goldblum will be playing the Grandmaster, and he has now spoken about his upcoming role.
Speaking to Empire, Goldblum described his character as "a hedonist, a pleasure-seeker, an enjoyer of life and tastes and smells." he added: "I'm working on my part every day. I'm a sponge, researching."
Goldblum went on to explain that director Taika Waititi was allowing Goldblum to create his own version of the character. "[Waititi] is encouraging me to improvise and make it my own, and that's what I'm trying to do," he said. "I hope he doesn't throw me out on the first day!"
In Marvel's comic books, the Grandmaster is one of the immortal Elders of the Universe, with incredible powers and an amazing knowledge of games. This will be his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Goldblum will be joined by Cate Blanchett and Karl Urban, alongside Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo as Thor and Hulk. Last month, Ruffalo described Blanchett's villainous role as "so evil."
"She plays the worst of the worst," he told ET Online. "She is going to kill us. It's such a great part she gets to play."
Thor: Ragnarok hits cinemas on November 3, 2017.
