Three New Xbox One Backwards Compatible Games Now Available

An eclectic assortment.

Three more Xbox 360 games have joined Xbox One's backwards compatibility program. Critically acclaimed shooter Spec Ops: The Line, comic book-based shooter The Darkness II, and Xbox Live Arcade game The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom are all now available to play on Xbox One.

Spec Ops: The Line is a third-person military shooter set in Dubai. It's praised for its story, particularly for its exploration of morality, the horrors of war, and mental illness. Spec Ops originally released in 2012 and wasn't a commercial success, but it has since gained a dedicated following and is one of our favorite games about war.

The Darkness II is a first-person shooter based on The Darkness comic book series. It mixes traditional shooter mechanics and weapons with magic-like abilities. The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom, on the other hand, is an XBLA puzzle game and was originally a graduate student project at the University of Southern California.

If you own a physical disc for any of these games, you can just put them into your Xbox One to begin playing. Digital copies can be found in the Ready to Download area of the My Games and Apps section on the console, or you can buy the games directly through the Xbox Store. For more, check out the full list of nearly 400 backwards compatible games that have been released on Xbox One. Meanwhile, check out the upcoming Xbox One and Xbox 360 free Games with Gold, arriving this February.

I've never played Spec Ops: The Line but apparently it's really good.

Spec ops was actually based on Joseph Conrad's "heart of Darkness" which is not a comic book! it is actually one of literature's pearls!!! There is also a "modern take" of it on cinema that you might know: it is called "Apocalypse now!" by Francis Ford Coppola.

Spec Ops: The Line has one of the most interesting stories in gaming.

Side note: Come on Dragon Age 2!

Still mad that they cell shaded Darkness II when the original Darkness was so much more graphically superior.

@khanwashere: i find the cell shaded look actually better because it captures more the feeling of the comic books

@khanwashere: I had not even realized they switched the graphics style (in library but not yet played), that does suck to an extent as I liked the original art style. If they were going to do that, they should have at least made it look like the comic book art style.
