TimeSplitters 2 Levels Can Be Played in Homefront: The Revolution

Journey to TimeSplitters' versions of Chicago and Siberia in Homefront: The Revolution.

Upcoming shooter Homefront: The Revolution features two playable levels from the excellent TimeSplitters 2, provided you can find their secret location.

According to Eurogamer, the first two levels from TimeSplitters 2--Siberia and Chicago--are playable by tracking down an in-game arcade cabinet. It's located inside of a prison area in Philadelphia and allows the full levels to be played.

TimeSplitters 2 is a beloved first-person shooter released for PS2, GameCube, and Xbox back in 2002. It featured both an extensive single-player (in which you jump to various locations throughout time, like Siberia in 1990 and Chicago in 1932) and multiplayer, complete with a map editor.

TimeSplitters 2 received one follow-up, 2005's TimeSplitters: Future Perfect, but hasn't been seen since. TimeSplitters 4 was announced in 2007 but eventually fell to the wayside by 2012 due to lack of interest from publishers. Before being shut down, developer Free Radical Design became Crytek UK, and in 2014 the studio said it still had "a lot of love for" the series. Not long after, the studio was shuttered and its project--Homefront: The Revolution--was sold to Deep Silver. The publisher in turn founded a new studio made up of former Crytek UK/Free Radical Design staffers to continue working on The Revolution.

A sequel to 2011's Homefront has been in the works for quite some time; Crytek originally acquired the rights to develop it from the THQ bankruptcy auction in 2013.

Unlike its predecessor, The Revolution features an open-world. Following a delay last year, the game is finally due out for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on May 17 in North America and May 20 in Europe.

Interesting. I don't like the first TimeSplitters that much, but I have very fond memories of two and three.

That's a weird easter egg in a game I probably won't play unless people say it's surprisingly good.

At this point I would just take an updated version of Timesplitters 2. I've never enjoyed an FPS as much as I did that game. While they're at it, if they wanted to re-release Second Sight, I'd be down for that as well.

@indigoj: Hell even just a remaster is a much better choice than Homefront. The beta was awful generic as shit and numb gunplay.
