Titanfall 2 CEO Took His Team to Hawaii to Celebrate Game's Launch

To celebrate Titanfall 2's launch, the CEO of developer Respawn Entertainment took his team to Hawaii. Writing on Instagram, Vince Zampella said, "Took the team to Maui to celebrate launching an amazing game!" They are apparently at the Four Seasons luxury resort--which looks totally incredible.

Zampella, who founded Call of Duty studio Infinity Ward before being fired by Activision, has also partied with Selena Gomez and Zedd at Minecraft creator Markus Persson's housewarming party.

Titanfall 2 launched on October 28 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. On the same day that the game arrived, an analyst firm said the game's sales would be "substantially disappointing" due in part to the fact that it launched directly between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

Publisher EA has not announced any sales numbers for Titanfall 2. CFO Blake Jorgensen said this week that that EA is taking a long-term approach to the franchise, so first-day and first-week sales are not keeping him up at night, apparently.

"We remind people we're building a franchise with Titanfall, so it's not about the first day of sales or the first week of sales, it's about the long run," he said. "We'll do a lot of things with Titanfall to continue to build engagement. We're going to give away a substantial amount of free extra digital content going into next year. And really build the franchise around people and engaging with the title. Because everyone who has played it just loves it."

As announced previously, all Titanfall 2 DLC maps and modes will be free, as part of developer Respawn's effort to not divide the community.

GameSpot's Titanfall 2 review scored it a 9/10. For more on the game's critical reception, read this roundup of review scores.

Taking everyone on vacation to Hawaii before the game has even been confirmed to be successful, EA always makes such wise business decisions.

@Blk_Mage_Ctype: 1st off it's not EA genius, it's Respawn Studios. And it was for the hard work they did up until launch. FYI, it's plenty successful.

@Blk_Mage_Ctype: EA didn't take them to Hawaii, the CEO of Respawn, the people who actually made the game, did.

Until EA drops Respawn due to poor performance.

Really, is anyone going to take these clowns at their word? lol First day and first week sales aren't important. Said no publisher genuinely, in the history of time.

@derceto: The success of Titanfall 2 has a lot to do with EA as they wanted to release it at a time to try and eat into Activision/CoD's market share. They could have easily delayed the game into 2017 or changed the release date. EA knows the talent that is at Respawn and have already invested in them with a new Star Wars IP. Sales numbers mean a lot, but they won't effect Respawn as much as people think. At least not yet.

Between TF2 and Overwatch, they are easily my favorite shooters of all time and it pains me to see how stupidly EA handled its release. What the hell were they thinking releasing it so close to BF1 and COD, they pretty much sent it out to die.

I do wish them all the best as TF2 is freaking excellent game and deserves way better sales than its getting.

@xshinobi: I think the point for EA was to hit Call of Duty as hard as possible during its moment of weakness. I don't imagine they had any illusions of Titanfall 2, or even Battlefield 1 outselling CoD in 2016, but I'm guessing EA figured if they could knock enough of CoD's fanbase loose from that game, and get them to buy something else this year, they could use them to start eating away at CoD's sales dominance in future years.

I think Titanfall 2 came out when it did very much on purpose. EA is taking their shot at the king, and they're unloading everything they've got.

I'm all about incentives for teams, as well as end-of project/year parties, but at what point is it a boondoggle, squandering your profitability & margins? Seems that a target revenue-based bonus would have been better, IMO.

@Pyrosa: its not squandering if it's keeping employee morale up. And how much do you think a trip to Hawaii is and how much a game can make thinking it's going to eat up profits?? lol besides, I think the CEO did it with his own money, not company funds.
