Today's Final Fallout 76 Beta Date & Time For PS4, Xbox One, PC: When Is The Last Test?

Life is old there, older than the irradiated trees.

The beta for Fallout 76 continues, but as you read this, you likely can't actually play it. That's because Bethesda only has its servers available at certain times; trying to get in outside of these specific windows will yield a "login failed" error. Below, we've got all the details you need to know regarding exactly when you can play. At the time of this writing, the next test--the final one--takes place today, November 8, and will be available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Read on for the exact times.

Fallout 76's debut test was available only on Xbox One for a four-hour window on October 23. That has since passed, with Bethesda deeming it an "amazing start." Additional test periods will continue to be available for a limited time. The purpose of this is to force players together at a specific time to stress test and put the game through its paces. Sessions typically lasted 2-8 hours on a given day, and then the beta would be inoperable again until the next session.

If you wanna jump into the wasteland and just dick around by crafting guns, killing stuff and ticking off objective boxes while being too busy bs-ing with your friends to pay attention to the quests, this is the game for you.

But if you're expecting a well-crafted story, I got bad news for you. The holotapes are massively long-winded and everyone is dead. Have fun doing fetch quests for robots with literally no moral choices or karma system to speak of.

Like I said, if you don't care about the story and just wanna kill stuff with friends, you'll likely be pleased.

Kudos to Pete Hines for at least communicating on the subject. It's not (yet) any of the answers we're looking for, but top-level awareness is a step in the right direction.

Does anybody else think that Fallout 76 almost feels like a shitty Vault-tek experiment gone wrong? They're trying to pass it off as something bright, shiny and new, but when you finally crack it open its just full of dusty old skeletons, radioactive cockroaches, and an overwhelming feeling of sadness. Something went terribly wrong here, didn't it Overseer Bethesda...

*insert Overseer Bethesda holotape, and press PLAY for "gripping story"*

Bethesda has utterly ignored the hundreds of us telling them that the tiny 400lb Stash limit is unacceptable, while replying to other topics in the same threads.

If you bought the Preorder on the Microsoft Store, you can still cancel it by calling their MS Store call centers. Yes, on the phone, because they have removed the "cancel order" links on the Order History pages due to high volume. (Orders I have placed both before and after the FO76 digital item still have their cancel links.)

Takes a few minutes of hold time, but ultimately the cancel will go through. ...and the message will then be heard by Bethesda that artificial caps are unacceptable.

If you bought the Power Armor edition from Gamestop, your order was processed this weekend. You can just return it unopened. Standard RMA peocess. You might try to eBay it if there are still people who have interest, but for me it has nothing to do with money at this point.

@Pyrosa: Sold mine b4 release already...

I'll probably re-buy it once they either fixed everything wrong w/ the game or goes down to $20 bucks.

I still don't understand why the whole group can't level up or do a quest together....they forgot what happened in ESO even tho Bethesda wasn't directly involved in that latter game.

@Pyrosa: UPDATE: Looks like Xbox Store has also processed most of the order charges now too, so you can go to xbox.com/refunds and fill out the form using your order info.

Loving the game. It's not perfect but there is a load of content, the progression system works well, and after every beta session I want to go back in. It certainly has some addictive gameplay loops.

Good times.

Played the beta and cancelled my preorder, just dont think I would enjoy it. Besides I have plenty of other games at the moment so not sure I'd have the time to really invest in it. Maybe I'll pick it up later once I've worked through some other stuff.

They need to rethink the UI/Inventory for this game first and foremost. It just doesn't work with MP/survival/whateverthisis.

@erocker414: It's true that multiplayer exacerbates the clunkiness of the UI, but the UI was awful even in Fallout 4. As much of a staple as it is, they should just scrap the pip-boy asthetic for something more like Sky UI.

Has anyone calculated what Fallout 76 would cost if you were to pay for all of the microtrans content?

@jsprunk: The only microtransactions are cosmetic and serve no purpose to help you with the game. So, nothing.

@masterfrankgrimes: There is no "win" condition in Fallout 76 so it's easy to say none of the microtrans items "help" you. Cosmetic items are part of the game, and thus part of the overall cost of the game.

@jsprunk: No they're not. They're optional things that silly people buy because they're too disinterested in the game itself. It has zero to do with the actual game. Also, you can earn these things in game. Nobody gave you an answer because no one cares about these things. Go figure your obscure question out yourself.

@RS13: They've been handing out 'atom,' the currency for purchasing cosmetics from the store, very regularly. While I don't know what it costs in $$ to get all the cosmetics, I don't think it's going to be a problem earning them in-game just by playing it normally.

@kappamerc: That may be true. My point is that Masterfrank simply didn't answer the question. You can reasonably think the microtransactions are fair. You can reasonably think they're exploitative. You can reasonably think something in the middle. What you can't reasonably think is that "they're cosmetic" is an answer to "how much does it take to buy everything?"

Uninstalled... I supported this game heavily since the start, but the artificial storage cap broke the last straw. Canceling both preorders.

I refuse to pay for crafting storage. That scam needs to die with ESO and mobile crapware.

Intentionally tried to break a bunch of CAMP-related things today, and made several good discoveries... and one horrifying "SO THERE'S THE GOTCHA/"GACHA" ASPECT".

If someone is messing around in your camp and hasn't yet gone full aggro, youcan indeed just quickly log out to prevent collateral damage. But (as mentioned before) it's super-cheap to rebuild all from your CAMP.

If you spawn on a map where somone already has picked your location, your CAMP simply won't spawn. No harm done. You can then move it for free, or respawn on another server that has that spot open.

If for any reason the game screws up your CAMP, all your buildings will be auto-saved to "Stored" items, including furniture intact in any enclosed buildings.

You can edit any door and LOCK it. You have up to 6 locks. Make them aggro and be killed by your turrets if they want to break in and touch your stuff.

The AWFUL -- first game-ruining Gotcha, which people need to complain LOUDLY about:

Your Stash is capped at 400lbs.

They clearly intend you to have to pay for expansion somehow.

This was not okay in ESO, it's not okay in any game that has an upfront cost, and it's not okay here.

Complain, folks.

400lbs is just over 2 full carried inventory loads. This is utterly game-breaking in an otherwise surprisingly functional game.

Addendum: My 400lbs is 85% already broken-down crafting materials. It's not a collection of optional intact items. ...yet I'm nowhere close to having the recipes needed to build the amazing structures yet.

Again, this is straight out of the ESO playbook.

This is completely anti-gamer.

...and it's worth canceling preorders for.

@jsprunk: All they would need to do is clearly state that somewhere, anywhere, and the hundreds of posts I've seen about it would all be answered / put at ease.

@Pyrosa: while not a deal breaker to me, it is bizarre that the personal stash functions on weight rather than item count.

Look, any game needs to limit what is being stored per character in its database. We don't need Team OCD crashing the servers because they need to have 481 of each item stored at all times to keep their nerves from fraying. But there is a legitimate question of how much we should allow per player to preserve the survival style of gameplay while not being overly strict.

Right now, I would just argue that it's stupid the box has a weight limit. I mean it's already holding an impossible amount of stuff, so realism isn't an issue. Let's put aside weight and instead of penalizing players for a stack of steel or wood (two very commonly used items), just limit a stack to say 100 and count that as one item. Then place a limit on the total number of items that can be stored. Inevitably this limit is going to be too low for some, but I think item count works better than weight.

@Ish_basic: Handling large arrays of data is the foundation of any code, and large arrays (think "spreadsheets") are super-easy and super-cheap to store, read, write, etc... Even the "bottomless" array that was the FO4 Workshop wouldn't become a server-crippling issue at the low player counts F76 suports per server.

They could simply modify to 400 to 4000 while coming up with a permanent solution, such as the indexed count you suggested.

But most important thing to note is that they've officially said NOTHING about it yet.

Game is horrible.

The FPS (on a i7 5960x 1080ti) problems start at the vault. If lucky, 35 fps, if really lucky, 38 fps, but 25-35 is the norm. Had to fiddle around with window mode, stretched etc, impossible to get above 40 fps, impossible.

You run around to find corpses with holo tapes, and you do that a lot. No NPC but guess what, every mission involves finding a corpse with a holo tape, what kind of repetitive crap.

Yeah, you can soon buy baseball caps and cosmetic crap like that for real money, what a joke, really.

And today they wanted to throw another 45 GB patch, total of 90+ GB for a half baked low performance, boring arse game.... 2012 tech game with fps issues on high end consoles, I mean, this is a complete joke at best.

Also, this game I can tell you know will be easily hacked and scripts will be out there for cheaters to use on the PC, I mean, this is a joke, really....

@phili878: sounds like you might be running off integrated gpu. i have a 1080 ti and i get 100 fps most places some dips into 60s during high populated towns.. also at 3440 x 1440 resolution. Also put it in fullscreen mode, it gets low fps in the other two modes. There was not a 45 gb patch, what happened was the launcher deleted preloads and you had to download it all over again.

@phili878: nothing personal but thats all on your setup then. Only saying this because I run the game on ultra and stream it too without FPS problems and there is no '45 gig patch', you smoking something.... suggest you looking at download sizes because the game is still < 50gigs it only appears to be that big the last patch was only 4gig but it has to process thru the whole game files because of its storage layout its not 'downloading' 45gigs (and tuesday was a full client re-download due to the launcher bug not a patch)

This game is ****ed bad.

FPS is tied to gameplay. Even walking speed. People are editing a single line in the engine ini to unlock fps, and are walking 50mph.

There is no simple fix for this and it will most likely be capped fps\forced vsync upon release.

Skyrim x87 all over again. What a joke.

@rodoxthedark: oh I understand but people in general im saying if they hating on it because the lack of them is baseless because its multi player, the events they do are geared for team MP. that and the area pvp control zones. you can solo your arse off without the NPC. I only teamed up towards the end of the Thursday because I was holding 2 of them zones and trying to get the power plant back online.

@sycholic: Almost every other MMO has NPCs (including the Elder Scrolls Online). This isn't people not getting what the game is, it's people not liking what the game is. I've watched a ton of impressions videos and not one has said the lack of NPCs works, even those that like the game overall. It's a bad decision that is not necessary to make an MMO.
