Tommy Lee Jones Joins Next Bourne Movie

Veteran actor will reportedly play a "superior" CIA officer in the 2016 film.

Academy Award-winning actor Tommy Lee Jones will join Matt Damon in the next Bourne movie.

Variety has heard from sources that Jones will play a "superior" CIA officer in the movie, not unlike the characters that Chris Cooper, Brian Cox, Edward Norton, and David Strathairn played in past Bourne films.

The new Bourne movie doesn't have a name yet, and official plot details are being kept under wraps. The action film opens July 29, 2016, starring Damon, Alicia Vikander, and Julia Stiles.

Paul Greengrass, who directed the most recent entries in the series starring Damon, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, will return for the new film.

2012's The Bourne Legacy, starring Jeremy Renner, is the most recent entry in the series.

Jones won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for the 1993 movie The Fugitive. He is also known well for the Men in Black franchise, along with No Country for Old Men.

Aside from the amazing camera work, The Bourne Legacy was not good at all, especially the pacing of the film. I'm glad they decided to bring back Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon.

@validifyed: Yeah, that was bad, but to me that's different. They tried to do something different without Bourne, but it was basically the same thing just not as interesting. I actually watched from start to finish all three of the original films just in anticipation for Legacy, which is kind of weird since I wasn't necessarily excited for Legacy, but the Bourne trio turned out to be good to great, while Legacy was just mediocre. This one will have Bourne back, and original director's.

The only thing I liked the idea of in Legacy (and yet, also disliked at the same time) is that it was another group of trained, or genetically enhanced spy soldier things. Honestly, that's my recollection of it, but the description may be off. I disliked that film, but I can get into another Bourne film centered on the main character. Also, I would very much recommend the video game! It was great. Some things feel half-baked when compared to other aspects, but I really enjoyed all the gameplay parts. The settings were interesting, and sound design was very good with great visuals.

It's one of those games that I feel no one really played, and while not an amazing title, was surely much better than one can expect. Oh! Sorry, this is a reply to you, but talking about the game, I'm really telling this to anyone that wants to read it.

Yay. With Damon and Greengrass onboard it looks like it will be a core entry and not a spin-off like the last!

Plus Tommy Lee Jones is awesome in everything.

Oh So glad Matt Damon is going to be in the next Jason Bourne movie, because the last one sucked ! I knew it woudl as soon as I heard they were making a Json Bourne movie WITHOUT Jason Bourne !

Jermy Renner is a good actor and I like him in most things but he's NO replacement for Jason Bounre. And I feel like trying to make a Bourne movie without Matt Damon is like trying to make The Good the Bad and the Ugly without Clint Eastwood it just wouldn't work.

Now this is the news I like, a new Bourne is in the works and adding Tommy Lee Jones is a bonus right there. I enjoy all the Bourne movies [including Legacy] and looking forward to seeing Matt Damon in action again.
