Facebook also today announced its Game of the Year and other category winners. The company has changed its approach over the years, but this year, the list factors in everything from user reviews to "data-driven ranking of virality." Here's more on how Facebook decided its winners this year.
"What we've learned in that time is that there is no one golden approach to coosing the 'best' games," Facebook said in a statement. "Some games have strong retention, but don't grow quickly. Some games grow exponentially in a matter of months--but are forgotten within a year. Older games have stronger engagement than younger games; newer games launch across mobile and Facebook.com simultaneously, creating shifts in player engagement."
With that context, Facebook's complete list of game of the year winners is below. Note, too, that PlayStation 4 was among the winners for Best Facebook Integration, while Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom won the award for best ad campaign.
