Top 20 Best-Selling Games In The US For November 2017

November was a big month for new video game releases, but which sold the best? The NPD Group today released its report covering game sales in the US, revealing that the perennial powerhouse franchise, Call of Duty, was No. 1 again with Call of Duty: WWII. Rounding out the top five were Star Wars: Battlefront II, Assassin's Creed: Origins, NBA 2K18, and Madden NFL 18.

After just one month, Call of Duty: WWII is now the best-selling game of 2017 and the top-seller for the rolling 12-month period ended November 2017. The game drove the most revenue for any Call of Duty since the massively successful Call of Duty: Black Ops II in 2012. This kind of success was expected, given that Activision already said Call of Duty: WWII sales doubled that of the underperforming Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare at launch.

Also of note is that the controversy surrounding Star Wars: Battlefront II didn't keep people away, or at least not enough to push the game further down the chart. It was never going to surpass Call of Duty: WWII, so a No. 2 finish for the month was the best EA could have realistically hoped for. The NPD Group also noted that the month's No. 3 game, Assassin's Creed: Origins, made more money than any other Assassin's Creed game since 2013's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

Another takeaway from the November 2017 report was that racing game sales tripled year-over-year, while the Shooter (+30 percent) and Sports Games (+26 percent) also showed impressive growth compared to last year. Overall, total dollar sales for games in November reached $1.2 billion for November, which is up 19 percent. For the full year, spending on games now stands at $5.4 billion, which is up 6 percent.

In terms of hardware, the PlayStation 4 was the best-selling console of the month in terms of units sales though the Xbox One made the most in terms of dollar sales.
