The Tom Cruise action movie continues to climb up the charts.
Top Gun: Maverick continues to soar at the box office, surpassing another box office juggernaut, Titanic. After another weekend in theaters, the Tom Cruise action movie has now made $662.5 million in the US, which pushes past 1997's Titanic, the James Cameron film that earned $659.4 million. These figures are not adjusted for inflation.
Maverick now ranks as the seventh highest-grossing movie of all time in the US. 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens remains No. 1 by far with $936.6 million, followed by Avengers: Endgame ($858.4 million), Spider-Man: No Way Home ($804.8 million), Avatar ($760.5 million), and Black Panther ($700.4 million).
You can see the full top 10 list below. Globally, it's a different story. Titanic ranks third all time worldwide with $2.201 billion, while Maverick ranks 13th with $1.352 billion.
Maverick was directed by Joseph Kosinski, who also directed Chris Hemsworth in the Netflix movie Spiderhead.
Maverick debuted in May 2022, some 36 years after the original film. Maverick, now a test pilot, returns to the Top Gun school he came from, to train a new generation of pilots, including the son of his deceased friend, Goose. For more, check out GameSpot's Top Gun: Maverick review.
