Top two League of Legends teams disqualified in MLG Summer Championship
Teams Curse NA and Team Dignitas disqualified for violating code of conduct; players denied their share of the prize pool.
North American eSports organisation Major League Gaming (MLG) has concluded its League of Legends Summer Championship event with the disqualification of the game's top two teams.
The grand final saw teams Curse NA and Team Dignitas battle it out in an unorthodox manner, choosing to play an All Random, All Middle (ARAM) format. However, in an official news post issued by MLG, the teams were disqualified for "collusion," after the teams allegedly agreed to split the prize money. The eSports organisation determined the action to be in violation of the official code of conduct.
Both teams will not be receiving any points to carry on to the North American Regionals and have been denied their share of the prize pool, which totalled $40,000. The money will instead be awarded to the teams placing third and fourth.
Following the announcement, various members of the teams issued apologies on Twitter and YouTube.
