TV and Film Giant Fox Creates a Gaming Division, Will Also Work on VR and AR

Fox, the media behemoth that makes TV shows and movies, is now getting into gaming. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the company announced this week that it has formed a new division, FoxNext, to head up development on video game, virtual reality, and augmented reality productions. The division will also work on "location-based entertainment" such as theme parks.

FoxNext will work with Fox's TV and film divisions on all of this.

In regards to upper management, Salil Mehta, who was the president for content management at 20th Century Fox Film, will be FoxNext's CEO. Before joining Fox, he worked as NBC Universal.

For gaming specifically, FoxNext combines Fox's existing gaming efforts, including The Simpsons: Tapped Out and Alien: Isolation "into one new interactive unit."

"FoxNext represents a natural next step in defining our long-term vision in this arena," Fox executive Stacey Snider said in a statement. "And Salil is quite simply the perfect executive to build this group into what we know will be an industry leader."
