Two More Xbox One Backwards-Compatible Games Arrive

Microsoft has added 15 games to the program this month.

January has already been a big month for additions to the Xbox One's backwards compatibility catalog, and now two more games have arrived.

As announced by Microsoft's Major Nelson, additions to the library for today, January 26, include Rocket Knight and Shadows of the Damned. If you already own these games for Xbox 360, they should show up automatically in your Xbox One game library. If not, you can buy them on your console or via the Xbox.com download links below.

Rocket Knight ($15; 359.15 MB)
Shadows of the Damned ($20; 5.58 GB)

Microsoft has now added 15 titles to the catalog this month. Other recent additions included Alice: Madness Returns, Battlefield 3, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2, among others.

There are more than 300 Xbox 360 games playable on Xbox One via backwards compatibility. You can see a list of all the backwards compatibility games here.

In more recent news, Microsoft announced that players collectively spent 265 million hours playing Xbox 360 games on Xbox One in 2016.

"Shadow Of The Damned" is one of my favorite games. Just didn't like I couldn't pick a level to replay once you beat it. Evil Dead homage level was the shabang!!!! Hope there's a sequel one day.

BC has been a very welcome feature. I just finished replaying the Mass Effect trilogy on my X1. Nice to have so many options of what to play on there.

Backwards compatibility is a subliminal way of MS getting/suckering you into playing the old 360 games. Since they have no new ones (anything worthy playing) being released. That's why I kept my 360.. I don't have to worry about BC..I just pop the game of choice in, and i'm playing. Especially games like Wolfenstein (2009), Bulletstorm, Tiger Woods PGA 07-09..Dark Sector, Singularity, Timeshift, and other games that will NEVER be on XB1 BC. As you noticed the bulk of the popular games are EA...gee how convenient. Oh well......

@bubba_666: What makes you say those non-sports games will never be BC?

Remastered games have been brought to the BC program.

MANY niche titles have been brought over to the BC program as well.

And just an FYI. Many publishers are heavily supporting the program, especially EA and SEGA.

IMHO, Shadows Of The Damned sucked shit through the small end of a funnel. It was all hyped up because it was created by Shinji Mikami but I thought it was a boring slog......

@creedboxer: I heard it would be quite a hassle if they put major sports games for BC due to licensing, not just from the game's publishers but from the actual sports teams as well...

Very happy with xbox backward compatibility program. It is nice to know going forward with technology that we can still play some our old favorites on newer systems. I suspect scorpio will be able to play xbox 360 xbox one and also have 4k gaming for games that support it, which will be almost every AAA game going forward.

@deathwish026: Seems like I hit a nerve with that one. But in all seriousness, yes many games have been cancelled, XB1 needed Scalebound badly, for me at least. Halo, Gears, and Forza have become for MS like Mario, Pokemon, and Zelda are for Nintendo. That's all we're getting.

@drprophecy: You make it sound like Halo, Gears, Forza as well as Mario, Pokémon and Zelda are a bad thing. Personally, I still haven't finished Gears as I'm still online with Halo or BF1 so I'd rather we had 3-4 quality titles a year instead of dozens of rushed or overhyped games ala The Order or One Man's Sky. Can't think of many games apart from Scalebound that have been cancelled...

its not even like that iether with there being a 3 year gap between gears and halo games. its like saying all sony has is the last of us, uncharted and god of war when thats not true iether. theres much more to both consoles if you can be bothered not being a pony to one company.

Nice. Shadows of the Damned was quite good. Haven't tried Rocket Knight so I may check that out. Totally loved Sparkster on the SNES.

@Archangel3371: the rocket knight remake is absolutely fantastic. It gets hard a few levels in, much harder than I remember the original but it's definitely a forgotten association reborn with some great art, tight control and awesome gameplay.
