Ubisoft today announced that it will publish Cold Fear, an action horror title from Darkworks, developers of Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare. Slated to release in March 2005 on the Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PC, the title will be the first Darkworks release in nearly four years.

The game's main character is Tom Hansen, a US Coast Guard officer who must board a seemingly abandoned Russian whaling ship in the middle of a raging storm, later moving on to explore a mysterious oil rig. Ubisoft and Darkworks promise that there will be enemies that are both human and nonhuman, but have revealed little else about the title's gameplay or story.

“[Cold Fear] is set in a dynamic environment on a stormy sea, including intense combat, intelligent enemies, and a high element of the shockingly unexpected," said Ubisoft managing director Alain Corre.

Darkworks' last title, the fourth entry in the Alone in the Dark series, was released in the spring of 2001 for the PlayStation, Dreamcast, and PC. The company's only other publicly known project, 1906: An Arctic Odyssey, was announced in 2000, but nothing more was ever heard of the title (although it is still listed on the company's official Web site).
