Ubisoft Doesn't Want To Leave Players Behind, So Division 2 PS5 And Xbox Series X|S Upgrades "Unlikely"

The Division 2 still hasn't received upgraded versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S--and maybe never will. Apparently, Ubisoft believes doing so could leave behind PS4 and Xbox One players.

Speaking to MP1st (via Eurogamer), Division 2 creative director Yannick Banchereau addressed why native versions of the action-RPG haven't arrived on current-gen consoles. "That's unlikely because if we really wanted to take full advantage of those, since we only have one version of the game that is available on all platforms, taking full advantage of those would mean that the game would no longer be available on the old generations," he said. "We still have a lot of players that play on all generations, and we are not ready to leave them behind and ask them to upgrade."

Last week, Ubisoft revealed the Year-5 roadmap for The Division 2--starting with Season One: Broken Wings--as well as a new gameplay preview of The Division Heartland. The latter is an upcoming free-to-play title in the franchise that focuses on a PvPvE experience. There's no release date yet, but it also will come to PS4 and Xbox One alongside PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Currently, the only performance boost for The Division 2 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S is a 60 FPS option. There are no other features since the game runs via backward compatibility on those platforms.
