Ubisoft Responds To Star Wars Outlaws Backlash Over Jabba The Hutt DLC Mission

Jabba the Hutt will be featured in the game for everyone, not just those who pay extra.

Ubisoft has responded to the backlash regarding Jabba the Hutt in Star Wars Outlaws and how some of the content is exclusive to the season pass. In a statement, Ubisoft said only one mission, "Jabba's Gambit," is exclusive to the season pass.

The rest of the villain's storyline is available for everyone. The paywalled mission is entirely optional and only represents one part of Jabba's involvement in Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft said.

Now Playing: Star Wars Outlaws: Official Cinematic Story Trailer

"Jabba the Hutt and the Hutt Cartel are one of the main syndicates in Star Wars Outlaws and will be part of the experience for everyone who purchases the game, regardless of edition," a spokesperson told IGN. "The 'Jabba's Gambit' mission is an optional, additional mission with the Hutt Cartel along Kay and Nix's journey across the Outer Rim."

This specific mission is available to everyone who buys the Outlaws season pass or any edition of the game that comes with the season pass. The season pass also comes with two DLC packs coming after launch that feature "new stories, quests, and areas to discover." It also comes with the Kessel Runner character pack that includes more cosmetics for Kay and Nix. Pricing for the season pass alone has seemingly not been published as of yet, but the Gold edition ($110) and the Ultimate edition ($130) include the season pass.

The Jabba's Gambit mission involves players taking on a job from Jabba where they must collect a debt from ND-5 droid. After this mission's existence came to light, some people voiced their frustration over a story mission being locked behind a paywall.

Ubisoft has said buying the Star Wars Outlaws season pass or a premium edition that includes it is the only way to play the Jabba's Gambit mission "at launch." This wording suggests Ubisoft might make this mission playable to everyone at a later date, though this is not confirmed.

Star Wars Outlaws releases on August 30, but everyone who buys the Gold edition or the Ultimate Edition can play three days early, beginning August 27. For more, check out GameSpot's Star Wars Outlaws preorder guide.

Season Pass is not something new, nor is DLC. What is the problem here?

They are always trying to beg for more money. It will never stop, now we are at this step, locked content behind 100$+ priced edition.

Jus tsay no.

Don't buy it. Not now, not when it's a 29.99$ not when it's a buck. Let them beg for money and ignore them.

As many have said everywhere, just wait for Black Friday and grab this at 29.99 or around that price. It’s not worth it at this price point. People need to stay far away from this and teach studios to STOP this crap.

Not saying this is good or bad - only that almost all articles about this fail to mention that all of the Ultimate Edition contents (including season pass, etc) - and thus all other lesser versions - are included with a Ubisoft+ Premium subscription. IE, their version of GamePass/EA+/PS+/etc.

The Ultimate Edition is $130, aka 7.2 months of the premium subscription which includes all the other games Ubisoft has and their perks, etc.

Just another way of looking at it. If you play any other Ubisoft games over that period, the value proposition increases.

I admit I'm a big GamePass Ultimate fan (which includes EA+) and that's paid for itself many times over. Not so much my PS+ subscription lately since the change. We'll see if Ubisoft+ is worth it, though - imho - it will for 7.2 months.

Laughing at the defenders of this game who were fine with the ugly butt-chin protagonist. Meanwhile smart people took one look at the trailer and said "oh, it's one of those types of games. Better not buy it."

If I purchase a product, and those assets - that code - is in the product that I bought at launch, I should not have to pay even more money to access it. DLC is understandable since it was developed separately and afterwards, but this is egregious.

Locking off a side mission just to get money is already a red flag. Not alot of people can't afford all the games.

@shamatuu257: good point, but I guess some people can exercise patience and wait for a discounted complete edition. It will be easy, it is an Ubisoft game after all, nothing to write home about.

@uninspiredcup: They're doing nothing different from so many others. WB, EA, 2K, etc.

People who buy this crap, motivating companies to do it, are the ones to blame.

@rabidgiantsr: A large portion of the gaming community consists of kids and teens who aren't aware that they're being ripped off. They see a new Star Wars game and they'll buy it (or their parents buy it for them) because it's a franchise that they're familiar with.

@rabidgiantsr: Pointing the finger at customers is frivolous. These practices became entrenched by pushing against customer distaste for years. They're still pushing against customer distaste. Large corporations do what they want because they aren't responsive to customers. There isn't going to be a spontaneous game industry boycott large enough to force their hand and they know it.

@paperwarior17: The corporations don't get a free pass either. Just saying .. why would they stop if it's working?

My concern is not the older generations that knew gaming before this stuff, but the ones growing up on it. I seen 20 somethings on low incomes dropping $500 a month on micros. And I see what this does to my kids. It scares me. As consumers, we get what we give. We are accountable for our actions too.
