UK Chart: F1 2010 overtakes Halo: Reach

Codemasters' F1 2010 enters the UK chart in first place.

Codemasters' F1 2010 has stormed to the top of the UK chart, compiled by Chart-Track. Halo: Reach has been pushed down to second place in only its second week on shelves, after a surprising 80 percent drop in sales. The week’s other big new release, Dead Rising 2, entered the chart at number three. According to Chart-Track, F1 2010 sold more copies than Halo: Reach and Dead Rising 2 combined.

Also according to Chart Track, F1 2010 is the first officially licensed Formula One game to reach number one in the UK chart since Sony's PlayStation-exclusive Formula One 2001, which was released over nine years ago. F1 2010 also sold more than 10 times the number of copies of the 2001 game.

F1 is back in HD and on multiple platforms.

Sid Meier's Civilization V debuted at number four in the UK chart, forcing Sports Champions for the PlayStation Move down to fifth. The latest rhythm game from Activision, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, entered the chart at sixth.

Final Fantasy XIV, the new massively multiplayer online game in the famous Square Enix franchise, managed to make the top 10, despite being released only as a collector's edition this week, with a standard version following next week.

F1 2010 is not finished, riddled with bugs. Codemasters should be ashamed of themselves. I'm not remotely surprised it has sold as well as it has; we've been waiting a long time for a decent F1 game. They have made very poor decisions in terms of their output in recent years. A long time ago they had a cast iron reputation, they have shot that to pieces. Im sure people are as excited as I was. I'm sure they'll be as gutted as I was when they encounter the bugs that make it unplayable: the rest of the field not pitting is a cracker, as is the lack of sector 3 times. Wasn't the point of console games that people don't have to mess about getting patches? That they would actually be finished? This product costs £40. Every single review I have seen fails to mention the fact that it is riddled with bugs, thanks for that. Maybe it will work around the time F1 2011 is released.

It's a multiplat vs an exclusive. Obviously the multiplat has the larger audience. Reach is great (a blast infact) but it's still a lot of copy/paste from the previous iteration. It's truly not bringing in a huge new audience. It's more for the die-hard fans then anything... And to be honest the list of spring FPS releases looks "way better" then any of the holiday fps titans. (including Reach)

F1 2010 Appeals to hardcore and casual gamers, and is on 3 platforms. Almost everyone wants to race a Formula 1 car. So its no surprise that sales are high. But personally, I think F1 2010 is an awesome game. Well done Codemasters! I'm just really glad Codies made this racer more realistic, now to make a realistic Grid version.

Good stuff codies. F1 is fantastic and just prooves you really don't need any of this huge launch party crap to release a great game. Halo 3 . . . erm I mean Reach will no doubt be in the bottom half of the table come november with titles such as Black ops and Castlevenia hitting the shelves. As for people buying Halo 3 a few weeks ago. Yeah ok maybe, but F1 has sold more copies already. Read Joe's story again - "F1 2010 sold more copies than Halo: Reach and Dead Rising 2 combined"

I'm guessing this is just because everyone who wanted halo reach bought it a couple of weeks ago. F1 2010 is a great game though, just a bit buggy sometimes.

@penpusher 1st i too apologise, for thinking you were american and my apparent offensive language 2nd im not a sony fanboy, im a gamer who loves metal gear solid, i know those problems with reach are limited and for those things only did i mean it failed, im not saying the games bad ok? i've played halo 1, 2, 3 right there good games, besides more multiplayer and spacebattles reach is harely any different from those games, for falling into 2nd place, i know what the articles, you thought i meant the game is horrible henced this continued discussion, for in the uk halo isn't as popular here as people think it is while yes its sold loads, the game isn't as popular as it mat be in the us. So in conclusion i don't think the games bad ok the little problems it has is a fail in that aspect and finally even i don't understand my comments now and then i sometimes make stuff up when i type :)

@S0LIDSNAKE87 1st mind your language I'm english not american ;-) 2nd: Dont bother getting smart with me mate youre wasting your time and re-enforcing the impression of ps3 fanboy your pic gives... and Well I'm sorry but you were the only one who understood your own comment I think, for one thing youre on an article about reach falling into 2nd place and you talk about fail though if I've just bodged up and rushed through your comment I apologise anyway... as for the game crashing on the 360 its not that many tis a mere minority (though obviously with a game that sells into the millions its noticeable)

@penpusher did i even say it beat reach in sales? NO and 2nd i know sales would drop after the 1st week with a big launch and less people would buy it, I'll repeat myself once theres a differene in fail for a game not doing well which i never said and the 2nd fail is like lets say u miss a easy shot so for a joke you'd say fail because something funny happened, those points like the reach game (Disk errors and freezing issue and installation difficulties and the fact that nearly all 360 would need the new xbox to play it but this is for those the game hasn't worked for) are funny fails, so read these words I DID NOT SAY THE GAME FAILED IN OVERALL SALES BUT FOR THOSE THINGS I MENTIONED THAT WERE ERRORS ARE FUNNY FAILS AS ITS A OVERHYPED GAME THATS ENDED UP NOT WORKING FOR SOME 360'S WERE THINGS THAT WERE FUNNY, ok so read this properly and get the message, good game has problems which cause it to fail are hilarious and lastly F1 getting 200 million? no chance, if you read my last comment, if your american then you've jumped to conclusions ok, chill!

This game is really hard to find in the states. I've found "import" versions on Amazon. But this game is released in the US right? I have a PC system - is the game delayed for release on PC?

@S0LIDSNAKE87 erm I think you have completely misunderstood whats going on here ... its not been "beaten" by F1 ... its just down in the weekly charts by 1 place beneath...halo reach has still grossed in about a few hundred times what F1 has ... As I myself tried to convey in my own comment after such a massive launch the progress that follows it is never going to be as strong hence the sales have dropped since quite a lot of people have already bought it last week so the amount of people buying it this week has dropped in comparison because so many people already bought it ... So I'm sorry but just about everything you said is wrong its not a fail because halo reach still has more sales than F1 ever will and theres no way that game can over take it in overall sales ... infact I'd be suprised if F1 ever manages to gross £200 million in the US and UK alone in its entire shelf life let alone its first week as reach has... So wheres the fail? ... And as for MW having more players online well what do you expect? The game is available on 3 different platforms... As for halo 3 thats wrong...I went on reach last night and there nearly a million people on, halo 3 hasnt had that for a while

@penpusher+DeadnBuried I'm not saying as a game or the launch it fails, if you've done research, the fact that something as popular as halo can be overtaken by a racing game after 1 week in being on the market and the fact for a number of people has said the game doesn't even work on their xbox 360 due to disk errors, frezes at 1st cutscene, unable to install on hard drive for co op play and yeah multiplayer record broken, last i saw more people are still playing more MW2 and Halo 3 even when reach has launched I'm saying for those reason its a funny fail, i'm not saying the game does but these things that hav happened since launch (which im not saying wasn't good) is a fail so you've two hav misjudged what i meant by that comment, u don't these things have happened, look it up

And Halo reach was probably a bore fest like halo 3 was. Infact most FPS games, especially sci fi fps games really bore the hell out of me these days. Killzone 2 was boring, resistance was less so but still pretty boring. And Halo 3 really bored me. I expect Halo reach was pretty much the same and it doesnt deserve the following. Mafia 2 and Red Dead Redemption are the best games of the year so far IMO.

I havent played an f1 game since F1 1997 back when I first got my ps1 in 1998. It was the first game I put in my brand new ps1 and was awesome. I remebr playing it all xmas and murray walker would coomentate in the game with quotes like "unless im very much mistaken, and I am very much mistaken!" "its pedal to the metal, go , go, go!". i really liked that game but for some reason I havent played an F1 game since or watched the sport. I think I will give this a try to see if I can relive some of tghose childhood experiences.

Been playing F1 for a few days now, and i have to say that you really do notice that it's a codemasters game, the rotating right stick moves the viewing angle, the super smooth gameplay like dirt and grid. The game is hard to put down to be honest, the only quirk i had was that i didn't like how low it was (even tho that's how it's meant to be lol) it just seems that corners (if your not constantly looking at your map or learning the entire course) they just pop up at you and sometimes it's just too late to notice, especially if you turn off the aiming aids. Overall a fast paced solid racer which i found worked on many platforms (PC) very well, and still keep a good level of realism, even on low settings. 8 / 10

Also to everyone thats curious, it isn't exclusive to the PS3 now because the license to make F1 games was too expensive for Sony's tastes and codemasters bought it instead, and have a contract for next year too.

@S0LIDSNAKE87 I'm pretty sure it had the biggest exclusive launch of any game on any platform to date, actually. It may've had an 80% drop in sales, but that's only because everyone already bought it last week or whenever it came out. I'm not saying that as a fanboy, anyone on here who's seen me post before probably thinks I'm a PS3 fanboy anyway. But saying Halo Reach = Fail is a pretty retarded thing to say.

I love formula 1, nice to see so many others like this game too. I'm having lots of fun reading all the comments for this article, both sides arguing that their game is best and saying the other doesnt know what gaming is. Gaming is getting a game and having fun with it no matter how popular it is, everyone has their own tastes and both games are good. It is not 'My game is better than yours so you have no taste and you're not a real gamer!'.

This isn't a suprise to me. Europeans have always been dedicated to their racing. I love racing games just as much as they do, but it's hard to focus on just that in the screaming FPS state of mind America has. Over here it's really annoying, it's eat, sleep, wake up, Call of Duty n' Halo, repeat. It's really unfortunate that so many foreign developers are trying to change over to the tastless and one sided views (most) American gamers have.
