Ultimate Spider-Man swinging out late?
Online retailers reveal possible September 26 release date; limited edition limited to PS2?
If online retailers are to believed, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man won't be, contrary to his theme song, arriving "just in time." The next game to feature the webslinger may be headed for a September 26 release, pushed back from September 13.
Both EBGames.com and Amazon.com's product listings for the game come with the late-September release date for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, and DS versions. The PC edition of the game is listed on EB's site as releasing on September 13. Fellow retailers GameStop.com and BestBuy.com, on the other hand, still list the game as shipping in mid-September. Attempts to confirm a release date with Activision were unanswered as of press time.
While Activision has been coy about a firm release date for the game, it appears as the September 26 date has some merit. In Activision's earnings call this past Thursday, company CEO Ron Doornink said the game would have a "late September" release. Doornink also pushed back the European release of Ultimate Spider-Man to the October-December quarter.
Fans of the famed superhero will be happy to know that a limited-edition version of the game is apparently in the works. However, it looks as though the special edition of the game will only come on the PlayStation 2 and will retail for $59.99, $10 more than the standard edition. The limited edition version will feature box art with Venom on it, a making-of featurette, an interview with Spider-Man creator Stan Lee, a special edition Ultimate Spider-Man comic book, and more.
