Uncharted Movie Could Make $70 Million Worldwide This Weekend
Sony's big video game movie starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg is opening in the US this weekend.
Sony's Uncharted movie comes to US theaters this weekend, and it's expected to put up big numbers stateside and around the world for its first big weekend on the market.
Deadline reports that the video game movie, which features Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Sully, is projected to pull in $70 million or more globally this weekend.
The movie already opened in several international markets and has pulled in $20 million-plus already from places like the UK, Russia, and Spain. This weekend will see the movie expand to other markets such as France, Korea, Australia, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, and Norway.
In the US specifically, Uncharted is expected to make about $27 million for this Friday-Sunday and $30 million for the four-day Presidents Day long weekend. The movie reportedly cost $120 million to produce before marketing costs.
In addition to Holland and Wahlberg, the film stars Antonio Banderas as the villain Moncada and Sophia Ali as Chloe Frazer. The film was written by Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, and was directed by Zombieland and Venom director Ruben Fleischer. The director has already teased that a movie version of Jak & Daxter could be his next film.
Here at GameSpot, our Uncharted review scored the movie a 7/10. Reviewer Phil Hornshaw said, "Uncharted is a lot of fun a lot of the time. It might not do much that the games haven't already, but fans will enjoy a new Uncharted tale that at least brings its own flashy, death-defying treasure hunt into the fold."
