Universe at War to rage across PC, 360

So many people complaining about Vista. Do you people really know what you're talking about with it? I've used it and it was fine. The 360 is also a good system for gaming and make sure you've tried one at more than a store before you bash it. Those demos usually suck.

ummm... WAY off topic, but... didn't red faction 2 for the ps2 support a USB keyboard and mouse way back in 2000-oatcake or whenever? it's not impossible for developers to implement the k/m system at all, it just seems that yes, console games are going to appeal to controller-based inputs and people sitting 8 feet away from a screen while pc gaming will stick to control fluidity and eyeball frying up close & personal monitor play. some people wouldn't play a rts or fps without a keyboard or mouse and hell, platformers of action games on pc without a control pad are often insanely hard to play.

of course you do---why overclock a processor that doesnt need overclocking? and why pair it with such slow memory? (for a 6800)

Well, I have an absolute top-of-the-line rig: ASUS Striker Extreme Motherboard Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 (OC'ed) 4GB Patriot PC2-6400 800MHz Memory (OC'ed - weakest point in rig) (2x) BFG 8800 GTX 768mb Video Cards (SLI) (2x) Western Digital Raptor ADFD 150gb 10,000rpm (Raid 0) Plus TEC Cooling, PSU, Raid 5 Storage Drives, Dell 24" LCD, etc... And I still prefer my 360 for many games that are available on both. I also have a PS3 and Wii. The Wii is nice for when non-gamers come over, but most of the Novelty has worn off. The name is still unforgivable, Nintendo. I can't call anyone to come and play my Wii. Come on. My PS3 is a big, expensive paperweight until some worthwhile PS3 exclusives come out. Sorry fanboys, that's just the objective truth. If I couldn't blow money on both, there's no possible way I'd choose the PS3. I still have hope that it will grow into its own and give me a reason for having bought it, but Resistance was not it.

I'm glad to see other publishers embracing the idea of cross platform games. Although I wasn't too happy to see Shadowrun as a Vista exclusive. Vista can barely stand on its own as it is. I don't think they deserve a really good exclusive game just yet.

Vista is the final nail in PC gaming, as is this 'traversing' of 360 and Windows. It is done to dilute PC gaming and not for anything else. It is to advertise X-Box gaming to PC gamers to bring them across. Hence the demand that Games for Windows must be compatible with the 360 gamepad. There is a conspiracy afoot here, and it's between Microsoft and the gaming media. It's why you can't find PC game charts any more (at least not easily) while the 'multi-format' charts proliferate.

IGN has confirmed a couple things in their latest preview. First, UAW is the first LIVE enabled game for Windows XP. Second, the PC controls are far from dumbed down. All the work is being done on the console side to make it control scheme fun to use. This is looking very promising indeed. Looks like PC players, with all there hotkeys and mouse, will have to bow their heads in shame if they get beat by a console user. LOL@

McGregor, I would have to agree wholeheartedly. That's one of the main reasons I still stick to PC gaming, although I do enjoy the freedom of building my own rig and the types of games on PC, but nevertheless, I would be one happy sob if someone actually implemented a game board for console. A controller just doesn't cut if for a lot of people, and it would be sure to draw many PC Gamers to whatever platform decides to do it. The reason I think they haven't is simple, they want a level playing field for everyone, and they don't want some players using a Mouse and another using an analog stick. But, if they made the new control scheme mandatory for a game here and there, ie...an FPS for example, I think it could work no problem. I see enough people asking for it, yet no go.

I think microsoft just needs to make a mouse and "game board" for the 360, that way it's not a home computer, it's still a gaming console. then they are open to all sorts of titles. i think the first console to do that will start dominating all gaming platforms. the only reason i still use my computer is because of a mouse and keyboard. my xbox would replace it so fast because of reduced costs of upgrades etc...my computer would be a web browsing paperweight! then they just need to bring WoW to the xbox! win! To clarify what a "Game Board" is; I would use a keyboard style device that doesn't have any letters, just buttons that are pre mapped, or that you can map yourself (forward, back, strafe left, strafe right for example). ****** made a device like this. but if it had a few hot keys, maybe the numbers 1-7 and a "ctrl" key this would work out great. if that makes any sense at all.

Dark_Nexus3367 Game devs dont care if the pc is better, for whatever reason(graphics or controls). If they can make a game for a console and sell it, they have reached their goal.

I think everyone who posted before me has good points, especially about the controls for the game on the consoles.I feel that developers should leave out cross platform play when it comes to RTS games, FPS games can still be on consoles, as long as they give the option to turn off auto aim, i played COD 2 on both PC and 360 and the auto aim on 360 was bothersome, It might be more challenging without auto aim on a console FPS,but i believe the option to turn it on or off would be useful.PC will always be better for RTS and FPS games, and the playing field is never going to be level without ruining the controls for either platform.

I think you guys are missing the point. This give people who enjoy one or the other the option to play with each other. Instead of worrying about which one is "better" we can play which version we want and still be able to hook up with our friends on the other, and I think that is great.

combat1818, you hit on many good points within your post. I do not like the idea that the perfect control scheme for RTS, the mouse and keyboard, will have to be gimped in order to have a level playing field. People forget that the RTS and FPS genre were created around the mouse and keyboard, simple as that, just like platformers and sports were designed around a controller. This is total BS. I like my console games too, but who ever asked for this crossplatform play? This is nonsense. Let's try out crossplatform games that don't have to sacrifice one control scheme over the other. RTS and FPS just will not work, as the Mouse and Keyboard is much more versatile. For proof, just look at Shadowrun and what they did to the PC controls. It plays like a console game, and Shawn Elliot, the editor from GFW Magazine came out and said it right away, so no BS on this one. Games like platformers, sports, racing, casual etc.etc..should go crossplatform, not traditional PC genres like FPS and RTS. Console gamers wouldn't appreciate their control scheme taking a back seat to PC players, would they ? I don't think so.

playing a FPS with a controller just makes you see the FPS with other eyes...it's a nice experience, but if you want performance mouse+keyboard is the solution

I've not seen a keyboard and mouse for a console yet. It's a shame because if one was available then RTS and FPS would be much better and I'd buy the console. I'll never believe a game pad can be better than a mouse and keys for these types of games. However, driving and fighting - gamepad everytime. combat1818 WHATS WITH THE CAPS - I agreed with your comment on plodding FPS on console, but since then you've come out with some rubbish.

Dude no. Just no. I play PC and 360 and I Know FOR A FACT that in RTS games the mouse gives you WAY more of an advantage then a controller. I will be very surprised if there isn't a huge advantage when the game ships.

Also, since i forgot to address the game they were talking about, I am very interested in it but I believe it that it may fall short of the standard other games like it have set (Civilization, Age of Empires,C&C) but it may be a good play for a little bit.

First off, combat1818, there's something called spell check, you should try it. Secondly, if you took the time to write an intelligent statement you would type with patience rather than saying immature responses to other people. Third, everyone has their own preference and of course rivalries will spark, but at least if you are going to argue make valid points (talking to 360 and ps3 fanboys not you combat). I own all 3 systems as well as game on my PC so a fanboy I am not, I'm just a gamer who enjoys playing the best games on each platform. And fourth, immature gamers are everywhere, though the majority do play on xbox live, but i ignore those losers. As for my opinion about the whole console Vs. pc thing, I believe each system has strengths and weaknesses, so while the pc is technically superior to a console and FPS and RTS games are more suited for it, the consoles have a larger variety of good games, (racing,fighting,sports,action,rpgs, etc.) but then again its up to the developers to optimize their game for each platform, not just the specs of a system.

Both 360 and PS3 support a keyboard for text only. It's the users choice whether or not they want to buy a keyboard specifically for their console or export it from their computer every time. Broadband gaming is not a fad. If it is then it's the longest fad running strong 10+ years. See its things like this, shows why Microsoft kicks @$$. Cross-platform gaming is the best thing to happen to the gaming world. Prime example, i have a buddy who will probably not get a Xbox 360, but he already has no problem buying an Xbox Live account to play the cross-platform games. Ultimatly, it makes it so you can play with more people and more of your friends.

Yeah, it states "Games for Windows - Live" enabled, so either you play Live or not, the PC version will be handicapped just to make it fair to console gamers like they did to Shadowrun. Sooooo wrong.

hasnt anyone ever noticed how ANGULAR & PLODDING ALONG fps on the consoles are?, or is it just me--(although i do give credit to halo-the only fps to really work quite well on a console---but guess what.it worked really rubbish on the pc)==the effect of motion in a pc fps is very fluid ..yet on a console it is always HORIZONTAL===VERTICLE===DIAGANOL===AND SQUARE

Oh no... Why? Why did they do this? This game looked so promising, well it may turn out great, but it's more likely they'll nerf the controls on PC for sake of X360, just like in Shadowrun. Why is it so hard for developers to stay on one platform only?

PC IS FAR SUPERIOR THAN CONSOLES ,END OF--eg sega dreamcast--unreal tournament----pc gamers hack segas servers---and head shoot every single dreamcast gamer as soon as they spawned---leading to sega having to transmit the image of a sharks fin (dont ask me why?) swimming around the dreamcast logo to let dreamcast players know when pc.gamers were on there servers slaughtering them.
