If you want the full Halo 5: Guardians beta experience, you'll need to watch Ridley Scott's live-action Halo: Nightfall series. By picking up Halo: The Master Chief Collection, you'll receive access to the Halo 5 beta and Nightfall. Nightfall's story will lead directly into Halo 5 proper, but it'll also unlock content in the beta.
Speaking with Kotaku, executive producer Kiki Wolfkill explained, "We will go into more specifics a little later down the road, but we definitely want [Halo 5 beta] rewards to feel meaningful for the player. So it's not just art [things]."
Whether that comes as good or bad news will likely depend entirely on your interest in Nightfall. We know the series stars Mike Colter as Agent Locke, a character who will play a major role in Halo 5 (he's the one we saw in that original teaser image for the game). You'll be able to watch it from the new Halo Channel, which will also provide access to all sorts of other Halo content, including Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, Halo Legends, and Steven Spielberg's in-development project.
The Halo 5 beta is scheduled to begin on December 29 and will run through January 18. There may be ways other than buying The Master Chief Collection to get access, but buying a copy of the collection (launching November 11) guarantees that you'll be in.
Are you interested in Nightfall? What kind of Halo 5 beta content would convince you to do so if you're not already planning on watching? Let us know in the comments.
