Voodoo2 Results Clarified
Latest beta driver numbers for Voodoo2 SLI configuration reexamined to clear up some confusion.
Earlier in the week, GameSpot News posted GameGauge numbers comparing the performance of the beta DirectX 6.0 drivers released by 3Dfx with the older DirectX 5 drivers for Voodoo2. There seemed to be some confusion about our results and those quoted by 3Dfx in its press release.
One thing we'd like to note is that our tests were conducted on a 400MHz Pentium II system; our GameGauge score was roughly 590. In the company's press release, 3Dfx quoted a GameGauge score of 665. Both sets of scores are valid, because 3Dfx did its testing on a 450MHz Pentium II system. The 50MHz clock rate difference is the reason for the discrepancy.
By the same token, there's still no bump in performance with the new drivers in GameGauge. We're hoping to include some multitexture titles in the next version of GameGauge.
