VSDA honors games in annual awards
Video-retailer trade group names a game of the year for each console in its Home Entertainment Awards 2004.
The Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA), the trade association for video stores, has announced its Home Entertainment Awards 2004. The VSDA represents the whole spectrum of video stores, including rental and adult stores, video distributors, and the home video divisions of film studios. The Home Entertainment Awards seek to honor achievement in the home entertainment industry.
Apart from the video categories, the VSDA recognized the best GameCube, Xbox, and PlayStation 2 titles of the past year. Without further ado, the winners of the Home Entertainment Awards 2004 are:
- GameCube Video Game of the Year: Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Nintendo
- PlayStation 2 Video Game of the Year: Madden NFL 2004, Electronic Arts
- Xbox Video Game of the Year: Tony Hawk's Underground, Activision
Ironically, given the rising profitability and stature of games, the three awards were shown at the end of the list--after even the adult title of the year. The full list of awards is available at the association's Web site.
