WandaVision Adds More Returning MCU Characters To Cast

Disney+'s weirdest MCU show keeps getting weirder.

WandaVision, the enigmatic Disney+ MCU streaming TV show, got even more bizarre today at Disney's D23 Expo with the announcement of new and returning cast members. Kat Dennings will return to the MCU as Darcy Lewis from the Thor films and Randall Park will reprise his role as Agent Jimmy Woo from Ant-Man & The Wasp. Kathryn Hahn will join the shared universe as the "nosy neighbor" of Wanda and Vision's happy home life.

Details of the show are still sparse, and the sizzle reel shown at the expo featured clips of Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers: Endgame intercut with clips from the classic sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show to give fans a sense for the tone. Writer Jac Schaefer teased that they have been "very inspired by Disney Legend Dick Van Dyke," while star Elizabeth Olsen said the show will be "very wacky and fun."

Now Playing: Disney+ Dates and Prices For An International Roll-Out Have Been Revealed

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige repeatedly called the show a "sitcom" set within the MCU, but the team has yet to officially begin shooting so actual footage was not ready to be shown at the panel.

Lewis, Park, and Hahn are joining the cast that was confirmed for the show back at Marvel Studio's San Diego Comic-Con presentation: Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, and Teyonah Parris who will play the grown-up Monica Rambeau from Captain Marvel.

WandaVision hits Disney+ in Spring 2021.

It sounds really bad, but I hope they can pull it off. Would love a superhero comedy.

For those wondering how Vision can come back, when Thanos and his army were brought to the future by Nebula, neither Thanos, Nebula, Gamora or the Army were returned to their timeline.

That means that there is a branch in the timeline in 2014 that starts at the beginning of guardians of the galaxy. In that timeline, Vision never died and the snap never happened. Stark, Natasha and Heimdall are all still alive and Captain America is still young. Time travel was never discovered. That is probably the Timeline where WandaVision takes place, similarly to how Loki has his own timeline.

@dragoonmike: He's "super" dead. So I don't even know what the hell this is supposed to be...but it sounds a lot lamer than I thought it was going to.

@cylor: I want to know how Tony Stark could figure out time travel in 5 minutes of Endgame footage time -- but couldn't just fix/rebuild Vision? That, to me, seems WAAAAAAAAY easier to do than time travel.

@non-scorer: He didn't have the key component: the Mind Stone.

@cylor: They were going to remove the Mind gem to begin with. Stark builds AI all day long. Vision should have been cake.

@non-scorer: Vision was no ordinary AI, he was a synthesis of JARVIS, Ultron, and the Mind Stone, and was so complex that even his creators (Stark and Banner) didn't fully understand him. Shuri tried to remove the Mind Stone during the battle of Wakanda, but was interrupted, and then dusted by the Infinity Snap.

Basically, I'm sure Stark and Banner probably could have rebuilt Vision if they'd really wanted to, but he wouldn't have been the same, and they were too demoralized after losing everyone else to even try. It sucks, yes, but it does make sense.

@cylor: Timelines, like Loki. When Thanos was taken to the present, he was snapped, not returned. So now there’s a timeline without him and no snap.

@alastor529: Probably does sell, but they're likely pushing more as well.

Oh great...

I honestly think Darcy Lewis is one of the worst characters in the MCU. Can't wait for more unfunny crap from her!

Also...really? A Marvel sitcom? Sounds pretty cringey.

@v1ndictive: Interesting viewpoint... myself, I found her both adorable and charmingly amusing, so I am definitely down to see more of her on screen. She absolutely stole both of the first Thor movies from Natalie Portman's Jane Foster, who was dull as dishwater in comparison to Kat Denning's quirky cute fun.
