Watch Dogs 2 Easter Egg Appears to Tease a New Ubisoft Space Game

Check out the video here.

[UPDATE] There is more to the story. Kotaku reports that there is a mission in Watch Dogs 2 that begins with the player intercepting a call from a fictional Ubisoft marketing person. They talk about how Assassin's Creed games in real life have a tendency to leak before they are officially announced.

"I can assure you, there's no way the trailer's getting out," a fake Ubisoft employee says to another. "Can you? Can you assure me?" the boss replies. “After what happened with Unity, Syndicate, Osiris?" Watch the clip below.

After this, a mission titled "Ubistolen" begins. Your task is to visit Ubisoft's San Francisco office (which is actually in the game), climb onto the roof, and eventually steal a game trailer by hacking into the network. Here is how that plays out:

Go to Kotaku to get the full story.

The original story is below.

With Watch Dogs 2 scheduled to come out in a few days, footage from the game has started to appear online. Interestingly, the game appears to contain an Easter egg that might be referencing a new Ubisoft game. Or it might be nothing at all.

Kotaku reports that Watch Dogs 2 has a mission that sees the player stealing a trailer for an unannounced Ubisoft video game. Ubisoft's San Francisco office is actually in the game, which explains how this might be able to work. The title appears to be some kind of rad-looking space game that Ubisoft (in the Watch Dogs 2 fiction) would announce at E3. Watch the video below.

What do you think? Is this a real game or an elaborate Easter egg? Watch Dogs 2 is a game about hacking, so this is a pretty sneaky/smart move on Ubisoft's part to get people talking about Watch Dogs 2.

Creative director Jonathan Morin said recently that Watch Dogs 2 has a number of Easter eggs to discover; this could be one of them.

Watch Dogs 2 comes out on November 15 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, before arriving for PC on November 29. Ubisoft said the two weeks of extra development time for the PC version affords the studio the opportunity to add more polish and ensure the game runs well on a range of hardware. You can see the game's PC specs and graphics features here.

Recently, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said preorders for Watch Dogs 2 were lower than what the company wanted, though management also pointed out that preorder numbers may not be as important as they used to be. "The preorders are not as high as we thought they could be but we feel like the experience is a fantastic experience so we feel it can do extremely well," he said.

Watch Dogs 2 is one of the many titles being updated to support the PS4 Pro.

It appears that people are finally getting the message of not pre-ordering games before they are properly reviewed. Either that or the last Watchdogs burned them so badly that they learned to wait on this one. Jim Sterling likes the new Watchdogs though.

Is it a game with space ships or is it some sort of action game taking place inside space ships? I dont just want an action game where you are a guy inside space ships. I want a game with spaceships, and no online please.

BTW complete opposite expectations with the guy bellow me.

@PETERAKO: The video is for a better, more real life version of Kerbal Space Program that they are making.

I'd very much like to see a space based game from Ubisoft hopefully it would be a 3rd-person open world action game as well set in space or on mars or something.

I think it would be cool if you had a jetpack so you could fly up the tower.

@Marky360: i'd rather have a sledgehammer & C4 so i can destroy the towers and all those who'd come to try and rebuild the tower, i want jamming technology to block their coms to make their towers useless, i want an army of snipers camped around every tower to shoot anyone who approaches just in case the C4 fails......

Frack towers, frack that kind of gameplay, it's outdated and we need better gameplay so games can evolve to the next level.....

top down games had their day and they made way for platformers, platformers had their day and they made way for arcade shooters and those had their day and they made way for isometric strategy and adventure games and they had their day and made way for first and third person shooters but those are still active and strategy is slowly coming back...

Open world had it's day yet refuses to make way and so we're stuck with boring open world games with boring uninventive gameplay and the same sad tropes over and over again, it's sad when the first thing you think when you hear a company's name is the same trope we've seen for around 15 years running....

Ubisoft is predictable, their games are lackluster and predictable, their dev's while capable continue to make the most uninventive and halfassed games......

if in Assassins Creed 4 was it? if naval combat was such a big thing why not make an entire game based on that and piracy and drop the murder business?? stay on the oceans, on;y go on land to do business in port towns meaning pick up jobs to transport cargo or what ships are ripe for the pickings that month.....scout for crew additions etc maybe try and branch out, do something new and invent new games stemming fro existing ones as a test.....if they had tested that in AC4 then they could have just said F it and started a new IP with a similar character as the guy in AC4 but maybe based on a real pirate from history.....Black Beard or something.....you get what I mean right???

the same old same old is getting old the same 5 or so IP's every year is bad, we need more variety....

Meh have disagree I don't have a problem with open world games and the way they play. I find them to be rather fun and I feel Ubisoft more then any other developer has delivered some fantastic unique experiences this gen like Division and Watchdogs. Soon will also have Watchdogs 2 and I'm Ghost Recon will be great as well. And though I'm not a huge Assassin's Creed fan I thought Syndicate was rather well done also.

@Marky360: Open world games used to be cool, nowadays they're just boring.....all do the same thing and it's dull anymore and really all genres just do the same exact formula anymore...

sidescroller games back when used to be fairly different, Mario was jumping, Sonic jumped too but he was speed and ring collecting, it wasn't important to collect coins in Mario but you did get a better score by collecting em....

Ninja Gaiden NES was a way different game than Sonic and Mario.....

Vectorman was way different than all of those.....

Double Dragon was different as well....and yes each subgnere had it's similar games and that's fine but in most cases they all differed.....nowadays GTA may as well be Saints Row or Watch Dogs or Just Cause or Assassins, or Far Cry or Shadow of Mordor or Batman Arkham.....all of em pretty much play the same.....

MGSV was the only open world game to actually play differently.....it's just too bad it was incomplete but even in that state it had more polish and thought put into it than the rest.....it felt more full featured than most games even if it wasn't complete, the story did more at least as far as I was ab;e to get did more than GTA4 and GTA5 combined.....

NO, I say Open World is kinda outliving it's appeal slowly but surely.....and in due time someone is gonna invent something better and there'll be a major shift.....for the better? who can say for sure but anything is better than climbing towers, driving up to satellite dishes, assaulting the same checkpoint 30X and driving out to a map point cus the map said there was a collectible here, see that's part of the problem, map says something is there and if not we avoid it......basically ruining the exploration.....at least in Fallout 4 I can go to say Crash of Flight 1984 was it? and not know what's there, first time I went it was raiders vs children of atom, on reload it was mutants vs BOS, went later on and it was BOS v synths, different encounter each time, different loot as well......as meh as F4 could be it's open world was done right.....there's real exploration, you walk into the unknown like Lewis & Clark, they didn't know what was out west but their adventure lead to the San Fransisco gold rush.....and the Oregon trail as well as other expeditions....point being not knowing what's there makes some journey's worth it, we all knew what was in the glowing sea, nobody knew what to expect going to say GNR plaza thought by that point we should have figured right???

@darthrevenx:

Hmmm I agree with you partially but come on there is no way you can say Saint's Row is anything like GTA after Saint's Row IV. Saint's Row IV was like GTA while tripping on acid I mean I could freaking fly for pete sake. I say Saint's Row IV did a pretty good job of turning the open world genre on it's head and changing up the game significantly. Just Cause is another one that's freaking insane and nothing like GTA. I'd say the only open world game that's do8ng the same 9ld same thing IS GTA bit everyone else has moved on and completely changed the way things are done. I love MGSV as well goodness the ways to take an objective in that game are truly endless.
