Watch Dogs Fan Mod That Improves Graphics Gets Final Release

Watch Dogs was not a horrible title, but it sure was not great. Aiden Pierce and most of the cast were forgettable.

Sure, taking down criminals was fun, but the way Aiden goes about it makes him more of a criminal, not a hero. The strongest part of Watch Dogs was either the digital trips such as Spider Tank or the multiplayer. Graphics are important but it doesn't matter much when the game's story is terrible. Aiden Pierce was the video game equivalent to Liam Neeson's Bryan Mills from the film Taken. I will admit that video games have adopted many aspects from films. However, protagonists such as Aiden Pierce fail to make an impact among the audience because they either possess no depth whatsoever or mirror an already existing character.

Side missions such as Gang Hideouts and Criminal Convoys are fun to play, but they suffer from repetitiveness. Outside of story missions, random crimes, Gang Hideouts, and Criminal Convoys, the player does not have anybody to fight against other than the police who are barely around. Yet, if one is playing as The Vigilante than he does not have to be concerned about such things as much as his polar opposite. Then there are those who play as The Menace who usually involve themselves in conflict with the police. One could argue that the reason why there are not many enemy types is because (SPOILER) Aiden disposed of the "top dogs" within Chicago. Even though this is true, one can still come into conflict with the Viceroy if he runs into a criminal affiliated with the gang.

I do not know about you two but I care for customization and Watch Dogs has one of the worst customization systems I have seen. Yes, the Assassin's Creed franchise was similar in regards to different color pallets, but Assassin's Creed has included alternate outfits. Nevertheless, Watch Dogs is the first in the franchise so it is understandable. Actually, Assassin's Creed began without any outfit customization compared to Watch Dogs which does have options. The only alternate outfit that I have seen is the gangster outfit that is DLC.

As far as gameplay is concerned, Watch Dogs succeeds in on-foot gameplay but fails in the vehicle handling department. The aiming and cover mechanics worked great. Also the combat was fun, more or less, even if it is executed through one button. Driving in Watch Dogs was not impressive and it was not as fun as I expected it to be. However, the only purpose of driving in the game is to get from point A to point B. There are fixer contracts and online racing for those who appreciate Watch Dogs's driving mechanics. It would have been nice if Watch Dogs had jumping in it, but the semi-parkour makes up for it, more or less.

One issue I need to bring attention to is the lack of explanations Watch Dogs offers gamers to questions such as where did Aiden acquire his collapsible baton or who is Aiden Pierce. What I mean by the latter is that we are not offered much information about Aiden Pierce. How can one expect many to relate to his character when the public knows little about the character? Sure, some will not care about the quality of the plot, but that doesn't excuse the writers to present the public with a lackluster story. Sometimes in these kind of stories, common sense is thrown out the window for the sole purpose of prolonging the story.

One of the goals of Watch Dogs was to compel the audience to ponder upon the idea of surveillance and how it is used. I only know this because I read about it in a online article. If I did not read about it, I honestly might not have gathered such an idea because I was too distracted by the disappointing story and repetitive missions. When I began to hack civilians in Watch Dogs, I began to how difficult life was for some and how easy it was for others. Then time passed and I began to realize something. What I noticed was that many of the civilians were some pretty disturbing individuals. One would have a better chance at encountering a cult member or sex offender than a person of faith or a philanthropist. None of this matters when you begin to run low on funds and you need a way to acquire ammo and such. That man with cancer or that lady who lost her spouse in an accident soon becomes another victim from your need of funds to remain well prepared for any encounter with the countless "evil-doers" of Chicago. No matter how you feel about Aiden, the truth is Aiden Pierce is not this good guy Ubisoft was presenting to us at E3 and the countless reveal gameplay videos. Aiden Pierce is a criminal killing other criminals not in the name of justice, but for his own selfish gain. Yes, we do not know much about Aiden, but it becomes pretty obvious that he is a selfish jerk not too long into the story. Most of the characters in Watch Dogs do not become friends with Aiden because they see his selfishness through his actions. The only "friends" Aiden had were T-Bone and Clara. Everyone else were mere assets in his plan to rescue his sister and take revenge on the people who were involved in the murder of his niece. Overall, the story was a mess.

Nevertheless, all of this is my opinion and everyone here is entitled to their own. If you believe Watch Dogs is a great game, than kudos to you and if you are on the opposite end than there isn't much to say except to please respect the opinions of everyone else especially those who admire Watch Dogs. Even though I did not like Watch Dogs, I do have faith that Ubisoft will listen to their fans and improve on the biggest issues of the game according to fans and their personal thoughts on the title. I would also like to apologize to anyone who I have angered or offended. I was merely offering my opinion.
