Watch Dogs Wii U Release Date Confirmed for November

Publisher Ubisoft will launch the delayed Wii U edition of Watch Dogs on November 18 in the US, the company has confirmed. In the UK, the game will ship on November 21.

Watch Dogs on Wii U will feature a "detailed and interactive" in-game map of Chicago displayed on the Wii U GamePad. Ubisoft has also pledged the game will support Off-TV Play.

Though initially scheduled to launch in November 2013, Ubisoft moved the release of all versions of its open-world action game to spring 2014. Then in March, it announced all versions--aside from the Wii U--would ship in May.

Despite suspicions that the Wii U version would not be published at all, in May the game's creative director, Jonathan Morin, said the team was free to "fully focus" on building the game for Nintendo's system.

Representatives for the publisher previously said that Ubisoft Romania was working on the Nintendo version independently, and looking at how to best incorporate the GamePad.

Ubisoft, which is typically a key third-partner for Nintendo, has taken a more cautious approach to Wii U since the system's launch in November 2012. Frustrated with the console's underperformance on the market, Ubisoft chief executive Yves Guillemot has publicly stated that Nintendo should consider dropping the price of the system.

Now with more detailed software sales to analyze, executives at the company appear to be unsure of whether mature games will sell on the Wii U. Guillemot has suggested already that Watch Dogs could be the last "mature" game the publisher will release on Wii U.

"It's very simple," Guillemot said in August. "What we see is that Nintendo customers don't buy Assassin's Creed. Last year [with Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag], we sold in very small numbers."
