At the 88th Academy Awards, Leonardo DiCaprio finally won an Oscar. The actor, whose breakout success was 1993's What's Eating Gilbert Grape, was named best actor for his performance in The Revenant.
DiCaprio was the favourite to pick up the Best Actor award on the night, but has a long history of narrow misses at the Oscars. He was previously nominated for What's Eating Gilbert Grape, The Aviator, Blood Diamond, and The Wolf of Wall Street (Best Actor and Best Picture), but never won for any of them.
This is the first award in six nominations that he's won. You can watch his acceptance speech in the video above.
Tom McCarthy's Spotlight, which stars Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, and Rachel McAdams, picked up awards in the Best Picture and Original Screenplay categories.
The big winner on the night, however, was Mad Max: Fury Road, which picked up awards for film editing, production design, costume design, sound editing, sound mixing, and makeup and hairstyling categories.
